RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

Remind me of that time I told on girls smoking E-cigs in the bathroom and I got suspended for "participating in situation."
That's like a cop arresting someone that reported a drug deal.

Most of the time... when you're crying, nobody notices your tears.
Most of the time... when you're worried, nobody feels your pain.
Most of the time... when you're happy, nobody sees your smile.
But when you fart just one time...

Actually I've heard such things happening, where a person reports a crime but gets arrested for being involved in said crime simply because they saw it happen.

Stupid cops. If I was God-Emperor, I'd have such fools executed for failure to institute justice.

Whistleblowers seem to have fewer rights than those they report.

We should value personal freedom, but let's not make the mistake of thinking that suicide is a rational choice. A person wanting to commit suicide (out of emotional pain) is at a point where they can't see an alternative; they're not just saying, oh, I just feel like dying, don't take away my freedoms. We would be bereft in our duties to each other if we didn't intervene and get the person some help to get to a more stable place where they can better consider some healing options.

The same goes for self-harm. People don't just do this for funsies. They need help finding a healthy way to cope with the root cause, and in steering them away from the destructive ways, infringing on their personal liberty should be the least of our concerns.

As for the story, it's ridiculous but not surprising. This is only one of the reasons about nobody in our generation trusts authority anymore.

It's not just here, though. Things like this are why people are afraid to do the right thing in China: http://www.chinasmack.com/2013/stories/g...derly.html

I have a very personal story to share with you all. This might be a long post, be warned.

I have made a person in my life so much happier. When i had first met her, she was depressed and she cut almost every night. She had tried suicide many times in the past. I was going through the death of my mother at the time and needed some support. We met in school and exchanged numbers. We texted each other every once in a while and i checked up on her every once in a while. Few times she had texted me that she was thinking about suicide. I successfully stopped her all of those times. I texted her stuff like "please don't do this, if i lost you, i don't know what i would do without you." and "you're beautiful, you don't need to do this". I also (sort of) stopped her from cutting. It was on and off. She threw out her blades. but she returned to cutting after her aunt died. But now, shes so much happier. I'm happy that she's happy now.

That was my little story. I just felt like sharing this. Thanks for listening everyone.

I am 14, and have my own computer repair business! And I'm a small time DJ also. No joke.

If you need tech support, PM me. Everything's free of charge. I use Teamviewer in case it's needed.
