RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

Capitalism

Saw a topic about Communism awhile back, thought Capitalism should have one to.

I can't wait to see what Rebelnerd will have to post about Capitalism.

I myself will post something meaningful and philosophical later.

"I heard a joke once. Man goes to doctor says "I'm terribly depressed". Doctor says "I know just what you should do. Poliacci the clown is in town, go see him, you'll be cheered right up." The man bursts into tears. "But Doctor, I am Poliacci." Funny joke. Roll on snare drum. Everyone laugh."

BASTARDS!

Hidden stuff:
TRIGGER WARNING: THIS TRIGGER WARNING CONTAINS TRIGGER WARNINGS!

Dear Tumblrites: Despite your wrongly self-diagnosed PTSD, no line of scientific evidence suggests people can be triggered over the internet. Triggering works through the senses (i.e. smell, taste, touch, vision, hearing.) but it goes through real time; if you're not experiencing it in real life as it's ACTUALLY HAPPENING in your ACTUAL life, you CANNOT be triggered. The only exception to this is if you have a seizure, but then again, that's triggered by epilepsy (i.e. rapidly-changing flashing lights) NOT PTSD. Remembering a bad incident is NOT the same thing as having a flashback. When you remember, you think; when you flashback, you feel.

I agree, although the same could be said for communism. I just fell and hit my head against the wall so I'm in no condition to post a huge reply. I'll deal with this later, don't worry.

No, you're wrong, a 100% free market doesn't work, since Regan deregulated airlines, they haven't made a cent.

Now, capitalism is by it's nature, a semi-exploitative economic idea, it tends to create an extremely wealthy upper class, and fucks over everyone else. If people were more willing to help others, it would work better, but capitalism also breeds a me,me,me mindset.

the point of a 100% free market is that the goverment doesnt get involved. if they goverment didnt get involved greedy ceos wouldnt do dumb shit cause they wouldnt be bailed out.

Re: Capitalism

I think no system (including economical ones) can be perfect, because humans are just too fucked up a race. However, when it comes to the basic question right vs. left, I lean right (and I'm using left and right in their European meanings-economics only). However, here's the thing.

I believe that if the government steals half your money in taxes (it really is half. Many people only count the income tax, but forget about the fact that there's sales tax, and products would be cheaper if their producers and retailers didn't have to hand over profits to the governnment), then it should at least give it back in some form. Therefore, though I don't support the existance of a state, if there is one it better provide stuff like welfare, healthcare, and such.

However, I would prefer individualist anarchism. Traditional anarchism is leftist, but I believe economic freedom is an unalienable one. If the state didn't get involved, a truly free market wouldn't have the icky stuff a hybrid one does (like huge unnatural monopolies) and wouldn't create the social problems it does (due to everyone having the freedom to achieve their maximal potential, exactly how they want to).

Note: The first two paragraphs are something I'm really sure of and can argue to death. However, the last one I'm not sure about yet: still forming my opinion on different economic systems. I'm willing to listen to any counterarguments Wink

Don't take life so seriously, it isn't permanent.

100% free market is bullshit, but a all-controlled economy is just as bad. I'm for a free market, with regulations, course.

Re: Capitalism

Communism and Capitalism are not complete opposites...

Capitalism is descended from an older system, Specialization. Communism was a response to counter the bad parts of Capitalism but kept all the elements of Specialization.

Without a government, or a regulated money supply, the elements of Specialization will eventually fall apart, For individualist anarchism to work you'd need whole a new market system.

you'd THINK that communism, letting the government control everything is a good thing to an average man, but it fails when u realize a docter is getting paid the same as a janitor, and its government is EXTREMELY conformist, if u dont agree with the government, the secret police come and kill you, plus it cuts you out with contact from outsiders

Re: Capitalism

The idea of free markets is bullshit. It's not that I don't believe in free markets, I do, trust me, but the taxes and the cooperation of government and corporations is a complete hindrance to society in general. But it doesnt address the real problem: Hunter gathering societies tend to be the most efficent because they don't have to fall into this bullshit economic system of communism vs socialism vs fascism vs capitalism. Fuck it.

So...Anarcho-primitivism it is?

"I heard a joke once. Man goes to doctor says "I'm terribly depressed". Doctor says "I know just what you should do. Poliacci the clown is in town, go see him, you'll be cheered right up." The man bursts into tears. "But Doctor, I am Poliacci." Funny joke. Roll on snare drum. Everyone laugh."

A good point, ruined by the fact the biggest supporters of capitilism (US, UK, Australia, etc...) also tend to have the largest middle classes.
