RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

My ex-best friend.

So, you probably all know that I have no friends and don't really desire any since I am extremely introverted and anti-social and everyone at my school imitates each other and is a dickhead. Last year, in the 7th grade,my best friend decided to fit in with them.

She became exactly like everyone else--cursing excessively, wearing the newest gay fashion trends, dyeing her hair, keeping her iPhone in her back phone, etc., In other words, she had conformed, and so I stopped talking to her since she wasn't the same person anymore. Now she's cutting herself and getting suspended from school for long amounts of time. She used to be such a good kid. It's pretty sad.

Not to mention that she tried to kick me out of "her" lunch table to make room for her friend, which REALLY proved her asshole-ness to me. She tried telling me that there were plenty of empty tables I could sit at in the lunchroom when she knew DAMN WELL THAT THERE WERE NOT. Luckily I didn't move an inch and I still sit at my spot today. What really bothers me about this is that she basically told me "You're not cool enough to me anymore. Go sit at a table by yourself so my brand new friend has somewhere to sit."

I usually don't refer to other female humans as the formal term for a female dog but...

What a bitch.

RE: My ex-best friend.

I'd rather try and make just 2 close friends at an anime con since I'll have more in common with them. I'm sick of all the kids who are just carbon copies of each other at school.

RE: My ex-best friend.

My best friend dumped me becuase I'm too flaky. We were having a school talent show and she knew I was shy so she assumed I was going to flake out and not say anything and she kicked me from her group which
lead to her dumping me as a friend. It was a long time ago. Third grade. I still live near her.

Your ex-friend is rude. I hate the concept of a certain group of kids "owning" a table. None of the kids own any tables. It's the school that owns the tables.

RE: My ex-best friend.

I was talking to a guy once about the subject of rejection. He was almost paralyzed by the thought of rejection. I suggested he consider a worst case scenario. Suppose he asked a girl out and she climbed up on a table and pointed at him and laughed at him in front of a crowd.

He might be mortified, or he could say, "I am so grateful you showed me what you were like before I wasted a lot of time and money."

Being rejected has an often unappreciated beneficial side to it. Yes, it can hurt to discover that we made a false assumption of trustworthiness. However, being thrown off a sinking ship is not the worst thing that could happen.

It is sad to see someone we once cared about walking down a path that will cause them pain. However, we have to follow our own path also. Disengagement opens the possibility for new friends who could lift you up instead of bringing you down.

My ex-best friend.

That's pretty bad. I do hope she finds her way out of the forest, so to speak.

I had a friend in the sixth grade that I got along with, us both being class clowns of a sort. Then he started 'maturing', joking around less, and assumed a position on the Student Council. He was still a good person, but not exactly the goof I liked anymore, and he was content to be a model student. This process was completed, as far as I could see, in the next grade. What made things just that bit more unbearable was the fact that the other student that we were both friends with who also was sort of a goof moved out of town that year. It was good while it lasted...

I hope CH is not too distraught at being rejected by this forum's equivalent of that abusive drunk I used to live with.

Yeah, I'm really thankful that I figured out how much of a conformist dickbiscuit she was before too much damage was done. Actually, after musing about some of her past behavior for quite some time, I think she was going to change into what she is now all along.

And I don't think revenge will be necessary. Besides, she's transferred to a new school now. Yesterday I heard that she's still getting into trouble and is bisexual/a lesbian now. What a troubled, confused soul she is. She was a good kid not even 2-3 years ago. It weird how fast people can change when they hang out with the wrong peeps.
