I got Detention for stating an opinion

Heres what happened. It was in my French class. The class is really loud and noisy and people don't give a shit, my teachers pretty nice (or I thought so) and she acctually tries to help us. Anyway while the class was fooling around, this one REALLY religious kid and atheist kid were arguing about same sex marriage. I was sitting beside them reading. The religious kid is the biggest asshole i have ever met. He makes fun of different race people for being that race, like he makes fun of an African person for being dark-skinned. And he thinks that its fine because he goes to church and god will forgive him. The atheist kid is really nice. He's a smart kid, he's helped me out alot. Anyway so their fighting, and the religious kid asked me, "Your christian right? Don't you think gay people are stupid?" I simply told him, "I don't have a religion and I dont believe in god." THAT'S LITERALLY ALL I SAID. The kid goes to the teacher and tells her about how i don't believe in god. And she said she would see me and the atheist kid after class. BTW this is a public High School, not a catholic or christian school. She doesn't get the principal involved, she just lectures us about how believing is healthy for us, and that we need god in our life, and she asks if we were gay and gave us these fucking panflets! I really don't know how I ended up here, all I did was answer the fucktards question. My mom always knew I wasn't religious and she was respectful of that. The teacher emailed my mom and the other kids mom, now we have detention for a week. My moms pissed the fuck off. And im scared shes gonna start a riot or something

Oh my. That's blatant constitutional rights violation. Religion (and political views as well) are not supposed to be preached in high school. You could actually take this to court, especially with the favoritism.

Oh, and that Christian kid is a massive douche. I hate Christians that are racist/terrible people. Hypocrites. Reminds me of Frederick Douglass' opinion on religious slaveholders.

If your mom is on your side, just don't go to detention and let the teacher face her wrath. Also, let the admins know about this. It might be enough to get that teacher fired or at least warned.

I would take it to court. Talk to the school, if they don't do anything go to the board, if they don't do anything sue them. ACLU might(and probably will) help you. Although if I were there....I would have yelled at her. Then again my dad would go batshit insane and call the school(and the board) and threaten to have news stations down there(which isn't entirely impossible), and might actually take it to court.

I hate the religious folk that do stupid/bad shit then say "God will forgive me" as an excuse. Fuck that shit. God wont forgive you and I sure as hell won't either.

My belief is that its your intentions that factor in here. If you intend to do something wrong or act like an asshole, expecting god to give you a free pass because you think you're doing the right thing doing wrong, Im doubtful god has any intention of forgiving. Especially those who frequently use this excuse.

I think it is better thought of as god forgives the repentant and mistakes, not the repeat offender who just expects a pat on the back.

You should have said "That kid got god in his life but his god must be Satan cause he is one bigoted son of a bitch!" XD

Don't sue. Go to the admins and talk to them. Tell them about being punished for your beliefs, and demand reversing the detentions and an apology from the teacher.

And if they side with her, sue their fucking asses off.

Also, I don't mind it if someone is against homosexuality as a practice (As long as they keep that belief IN CHURCH and not in the government. And they don't try to "change" homosexuals or condemn them.) But, "Gay people are stupid?" Asshole.

Thanks for the help guys, my mom and I just told the lawyer, he said all I have to do is confirm this when he explains it to the judge. My moms not during just trying to get the teacher dired or transferred to a Christian school

No, no, take it from a level-headed Christian; what you're saying is perfectly reasonable.

This constitutes not only a failure (on this teacher's part) to uphold the law of the land, but the metaphorical law of God Himself. To force one's will on another, even to pretend it's for God's sake, is sinful.
