RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

it begins

well, today was the first day of school. it is also my 17th birthday. wheeeeeeeeeee.

the good:
the three assholes who i was having a fucking war with last year are still in my classes, but i don't think i hardly ever am around them at the same time. when they're split up the mob mentality dissolves and they're much easier to deal with. also, most of my teachers are ok (my British Literature teacher is awesome; he's Irish so he calls it "Literature of the Oppressor" LOL), although my spanish teacher is sort of annoying and my chem teacher seems nice but strict as hell. Principles of Engineering looks like a great class, we get to make ping pong ball guns in there. also my bus route got fixed so i don't have to walk all the way down the street to the bus stop even though the bus PASSES my house. and we're doing archery in PE so i get to shoot things in school. nice.

the bad:
besides the obvious school crap, hardly any of my friends are in classes with me, so i'm stuck with the same old "Kevin's a pariah/weirdo/retard/nerd/ticking time bomb" attitude that i'm pretty much used to by now. and NOBODY i know has lunch my period. at least the assholes aren't together in there, but i was sitting alone at an empty table for the whole period, while people casually came up and took all the chairs away without even acknowledging my existance. in fact, at one point these 2 girls sat down on the other end, and i said hi and they still barely made eye contact and acted like i wasn't there. on the one hand i'm glad they're all leaving me alone for once, but it's still lonely as hell.

so, that was pretty much my day. it's lonely, but maybe i'll finally get a chance to extract myself from all the stupid infighting among kids and concentrate on the big enemy in the office. it may turn out better than last year, but that really isn't saying much. overall, it wasn't much of a birthday.

I think Buenaventura Durruti is a pretty cool guy. eh kills fascists and doesnt afraid of ruins.

I highly suggest Mobb Deep's albums The Infamous and Hell on Earth, if you have not listened to it yet.

why don't schools listen to schedule requests? it's like they put you in class with the opposite people that you ask them to. happy birthday! they should really give you school off for your birthday...
