RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

When you're trying to have a serious conversation with your mom and she laughs in your face then walks away.

Has this ever happened to you?

Uh...no?

Considering the fact I don't talk much, people tend to listen when I speak. And If I'm told to be quiet, I tell reply by telling them to shut up. If they do shut up, I stop talking Razz

For my mother, she'll usually tell me I'm talking too much or at the wrong time when she wants to be stop talking, to which I simply reply "First you say I should talk then you tell me not to?" and grin.

Question:What exactly would be the topic of the mentioned "serious conversation" that would be returned with laughter?

People still have serious conversations with their mom?

Um, no. My mother hasn't done that that. In fact I don't think I know anyone whose done that to me. Does it happen a lot to you, Mr. Dead?

This was the conversation
Me: Mom I don't consider myself female
Mom: Hahaha but you are a female. You have breasts. Do males have breasts?
Me: No
Mom: Then you're a girl hahaha *walks away*

Oh, and yeah you could say it happens a lot, seeing as how she has the mindset of a fucking 6 year old.

RE: That awesome moment

She is fighting/ignoring an idea that she doesn't want to believe. It's like if I tried to hint something to my parents that they are confused about/against like being gay they would fear the topic and drop it as soon as possible. She might be afraid of the idea. The best way to get her to listen (and the hardest way) is it walk straight up to her and tell her as exactly and as calmly as you can.

Good luck!

Like Dunjen said, sounds like she's afraid and wants to ignore the issue. Do you really want to tell her?

Yeah, I agree with Duncan on this. Your mother realizes it to be a serious topic, yet willfully represses her subconscious and tries to diminish the impact of the conversation. It's a human trait I always despised(not in me since I don't hold back fear, and actually enjoy the sense of fear) because it's not just in conversations, but people will literally see something happen and just "wish" it away.

I've read that many actually died in plane crashes due to such an act. They'd just sit in their seats like nothing happened while the plane caught fire, and would obviously end up fried in their seats because they just didn't believe it and tried to alter reality.

By the way, I'm pretty sure men have breasts. Men don't have mammary glands that secrete milk. Obviously male breasts don't end up developing as it happens with a female, so for males it doesn't grow in size like it does for most women(unless the male suffers from some disorder thing or are just overweight)

I wasn't going to, but I just sorta blurted it out. But I think I'll wait until I'm older to bring it up again because then she won't think it's a phase. And I mean it could be a lot worse. Even though she doesn't take me seriously, she doesn't try to stop me from doing what I want to do.

You know more about the human body than my mom and she's studying to be a nurse. Granted she hasn't started her classes yet, but still...

Men CAN lactate. The amount of milk produced is usually minimal, but it's interesting nonetheless.

Not another female job that'll get delegated to males.

It's pretty much denial. It takes take for some ideas to sit in people's heads, though this is quite an extreme.
