RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017
The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.
If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.
To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.
I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.
I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.
I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.
I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.
Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.
Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

A Moment you'd change
If you could go back in time an do something in your high school years differently, what would that something be and why would you change it?

RE: A Moment you'd change
Make the error during cold war go unnoticed allowing nuclear war to start, successfully nipping the bud of the hippies while creating a learning experience for those who survive the nuclear armageddon. Plus it'd also save us from the variety of problems we currently suffer due to what was done during the cold war.
Course main reason is cause I want to purge humanity of its disgusting flaws in the glowing flames of divine nuclear energy. Hail the atom!

RE: A Moment you'd change
I'm not even in high school (heading into 8th grade), but one major thing I regret is asking out my crush of 2 years on her birthday (coincidence, I would have rather not done it on her birthday, but it was now-or drive myself crazy for her during the summer kind of thing). Rejected me (I think she thought it was a joke, so she said no. I was serious).

Schoolsux, I know how you feel, In sixth grade I told a "friend" of mine about a crush I had on a girl during lunch and he told the next person over, she and her friends heard and died laughing and she shouted at me from across the room that it would never happen, bunch of little bitches
That's definitely something I regret

Damn. I would want to be the only one who would tell my crush I like her. That's much worse than what happened to me (and I went between batshit insane and depressed for a moment there).

I regret asking a girlfriend I had a crush on out, too. Turns out she had a boyfriend, but that's another story.
Anyways, if I could change my school days, I'd be like I am nowadays; reserved and intimidating.

Not cruel and twisted. Just inexperienced, immature(I call bs on girls are more mature), and more prone to peer/social pressure.
Ain't worth seeking a relationship until at least your second decade of life(if it weren't for the excessive moralistic psychopathy imposed by conservative Murikans and bullshit TV examples, I'm sure teens would be more capable of emotional maturity. However a lack of knowledge coupled with total bullshit on TV serving as the role models tends to create a bad mix)

I would have to kiss my friend Brian, he offered and I said no, too shy, darn me.
The majority of girls at my high school turned out pretty nice.

I nearly asked out my crush in 6th grade... when she was dating the starting running back on the football team. Good thing I didn't ask her out then.

What if he had herpes labialis? Then you'd have it too. It sucks, especially since like 14 million ppl a year get it. Goddamn annoying virus it be, especially since it's symptoms are unpredictable(you may never have symptoms, or you may suffer from frequent outbreaks)

At least for a moment. The cold sore herpes(aka herpes labialis) is a pain in the ass. Three weeks it takes before symptoms will even show once you get infected(so you could infect dozens of people within those 3 weeks and not even realize it), it's possible to get infected from an infected person regardless of having an outbreak or not, and at the rate it's spreading, a decent chunk of humanity will soon have it.

RE: A Moment you'd change
I would have offed myself.
Hello, traveler.
This is an ancient account I have not used in a long time. My views have changed much in the intervening months and years.
Nonetheless, I refuse to clean it up. Pretending that I've held my current views since the beginning of time is what we in the industry call a lie. Asking people to do so contributes to moralistic self-loathing. "See, those people have nothing damning! I do! I'm truly vile!"
Because you can never be a good person with a single blemish on the moral record, I thought that simply entertaining some thoughts made me irredeemable. Though I don't care for his writing style, William Faulkner presents a good counterexample. He went from being a typical Southern racist to supporting the civil rights movement. These days we'd yell at him for that, probably.
People are allowed to change their views.
Nevertheless, this period of my life has informed some of how I am today. In good ways and bad ways. To purge it would be to do a disservice to history. Perhaps it will not make anyone sympathetic, but it may help someone understand.
If, after reading all this, you still decide to use the post above as evidence that I am evil today, ask yourself if you have never disagreed with the moral code you now follow. In all likelihood you did, at some point. If some questions are verboten, and the answer is "how dare you ask that," don't expect your ideological opponents to ever change their minds.

Cold Sore=Herpes Labialis or basically Oral Herpes(related to, but not the same as it's nastier cousin that's the STD for the genital area). It hurts like a bastard cause it's literally a cluster of blisters that grow out of your lips, and usually remains sore till blisters drain and crust over before finally going away.
No cure. Treatment though(to lessen the pain a bit). The herpes virus basically lives in your facial nerves for the rest of your life, and the frequency of outbreaks varies based on individual(and age. As you get older, it seems to lessen n occurrence). Stress and a weakened immune system seem to increase chances of symptoms, but no guarantee. Some people with the virus might never even have a cold sore(the symptom) but that doesn't mean they aren't carriers.
The virus is pretty easily contagious. It can spread from something as simple direct contact.
I had an outbreak once. Not sure from where though since there's that 3 week period. However, haven't had an outbreak for about a year so I'm guessing it's not something I'll likely suffer from except in those certain causes that stimulate the virus to active(generally illness, surgery, stress and such things that weaken the body in some fashion)
