RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017
The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.
If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.
To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.
I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.
I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.
I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.
I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.
Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.
Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.
-SoulRiser

Computers and Pencils
So yesterday I was messing around on the computer. I have to get off because I'm not doing homework.
No big deal.
But as I think that, things get worse.
After school, I go into the computer lab, get on a computer, and get kicked off.
"You shouldn't be playing games on the computer." Says the teacher. Does this look like playing to you?
I can shrug that off after I post it here.
Of course, somthing stupid happens.
The next day, I get on the bus. I left my bookbag in my locker, so I have a pencil shoved up my sleave because I have no other place to put it in. The bus driver sees my pencil and tells me to give it to her.
"Why?"
"Because you could poke someone."
SERIOUSLY?
Edit: I get on this website in another class. I need to shut it down. Why? Because "It's not OK to hate school."

All students should be frozen in carbonite before entering the bus, so that they can't poke anyone with their elbows and/or fists.

That must be why they're not allowed at our school.

School bus drivers should be kept in a plastic box, like on city buses.

Oh no! It seems that after research (more commonly known as "common sense" to everyone else) any clothing can be used to possibly conceal something dangerous! Even our great school uniforms! There's only one thing to do now to ensure total safety and control: make students wear nothing at all so they have no possible way to hide anything! Yeah, that's a great idea! The punishment for wearing clothing would be expulsion and a mark on their criminal records! Oh, and we should label each student with a bar-code and tracking device! That way we can count just how many students are actually in school, and find out what they are doing anywhere else!

Re: Computers and Pencils
These adults are obviously uptight. I assure you, most adults are uptight probably because of the educational system that have trained them to be that way.
however, i must say the bus driver has a legitimate gripe about you going around with a pencil on a school bus. Sometimes they hit bumpy places. just ask her to give you the pencil back and don't make a big deal out of it.
eventually you must figure out a way to live on your own terms.

Then the bus driver would have just said to put it away. I think they meant that you would use it as a weapon.
