School Doesn't Care About True Knowledge — My Experience

School does not care about critical thinking, or really learning in general. My experiences are shared below. I will not refute the points they say; their stupidity is pretty much their own refutation.

My first experience is with a science teacher in 7th grade. Let's call her Mrs. Betty for now. Mrs. Betty had said that critically analyzing the knowledge presented to you is bad because "it's hard." She said that memorizing and regurgitating facts is better because it's "easier." Okay, WTF? This is coming from a science teacher... doesn't science encourage critical thinking?

My second experience is with an English teacher. Let's call her Mrs. Jansen. Mrs. Jansen was out for cancer treatment, so the student-teacher took over until she came back. She was very bad at spelling, but was nonetheless a good teacher. She tolerated my calls for grammatical correctness. After Mrs. Jansen came back, the class told her about how I corrected the student-teacher's grammar. Mrs. Jansen said, "Well, she [student-teacher] has a heart of gold, because if you has openly defied me I would have sent you out the door." Oh, really? So you don't even care about what is grammatically correct? Why teach us English, then?

My third and final experience was with my gym teacher. We had Sexual Education, so we were in the classroom taking notes. In her slides, she had multiple spelling errors and lack of punctuation. One time, behind the board, she spelled Delaware as "Delware." She is also a History teacher. So, I walked over to her map to look and verify my claims of her misspelled word. I then told her and she said, "Sit down, don't question the teacher, take your notes! Next time you correct my grammar, you can exit my classroom!" Screw you, too.

What do you guys think/what are your experiences?

The science teacher story is a bit ridiculous:did she actually define critical thinking accurately in class and proceed to literally say it is worse than memorization? If so, then I'm surprised, since I've never seen a teacher cross that "obviously stupid" barrier in class.I've had plenty of moments where teachers acted stupidly, but they never let it reach the point where even their superior status cannot protect them from open ridicule and dismissal.
Unfortunately, grades promote this kind of thinking:why think for yourself and spend time trying to be original when that will get the same grade or less than perfect memorization with more work and much higher risks?

Like I mentioned, just cry about it with a smile and grave concern to the principal or whatever with the supposed intention about caring about education.

Teachers still have bosses. You report them and in most cases the principal should react accordingly, lest the school suffer from bad publicity or get a visit from local board of education questioning their hiring practices.
