RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

Social Studies likes to bribe parents with 10 points on test

Well.. here it is.

Dear Parents,

On ------------, 2006 ( They made a typo XD ), ------ Evening from 7-9 pm we are having parents' meeting for our freshman Social Studies students. The purose is to help your children succeed in their Social Studies classes.

During this time, there will be an introduction to the skills, knowledge, and understandings necessary to achieve a successful grade. The teachers will demonstrate a typical Social Studies lesson. We will model instructional strategies that parents can use in assisting their children with homework, studying and research. There will be an introduction to Project Support and department tutoring. A counselor will be also available to address any parental concerns with graduation requirements. For parents whose primary language is not English, we will provide student translators to assist.

This meeting is not a substitute for open school visits, but an educational opportunity. As a bonus for attending this meeting, Your child will receive ten (10) points on an upcoming Social Studies test. Hope you can join us for refreshments and "food for thought."

Sincerely

-------------

I think its sick, bribing parents to go for more information about the easiest class in High School. Hey parents, Sorry if your busy working your child is going to fail. Rolleyes

Wow ATX, Its sick isnt it?

In Jr High, I use to come and sleep and they use to tell me to "Try" so maybe once a week I would act like I was paying attention and copy down notes while thinking about other stuff and they passed me, with high grades too. It was funny, I loved my teachers, I got through Jr High acting nice. I tried to tell all my other friends/students but they just laughed and thought I was stupid, Yet they got the average classes and I got stuff like English Honors in highschool. Laugh

How is it fair to force kids to do good in Every subject when in the real world, We have jobs for people who are good in different fields who do good in different things. In school its all about memorizing anyway, We don't learn anything that way through a forced education where you take a test for a subject and move on to something else. Its so quick and pointless if you took a test from the first test of the year you probably would fail. No

I liek to call it Nazi tactics.

I highly suggest Mobb Deep's albums The Infamous and Hell on Earth, if you have not listened to it yet.

Also, I just realized I spelled "bear" wrong in my sig. I changed it, but, how disgraceful...
