I don't think she believes that millions of children have ADD and ADHD but some people really do have chemical imbalances.

I have to say the amount of kids on these drugs is scary however.

You know, this'll probably make me into some crack-pot theorist, but I think some of the technology may be partially to blame. Our brain runs with/on electricity and charged cells, right? Well, if you have 2 objects with the same charge in close proximity, they push apart. I figure that the electro-magnetic field in our brains is affected some how by all this stuff that emits radio waves and such. Like when you turn on a TV you may hear a high pitched whine.

When I was 12, I was doing bad in school. A C- and D, my parents fucking flipped. They grounded me until my next report card, said my friend couldn't come camping with me (Been planning it for a month), and started lecturing me for 2-3 hour stints.

I grew depressed. I got angry in school, I always do when this happens, I think, school brought this, school is the reason, why should I give a shit about school? So I get an attitude and start back talking. (Not the B.S. back talking, like snide and rude remarks).

My parents looked up "diseases" online. I remember when they found one where I had all but one of the symptoms. They suggested pills. That scared me, I'd heard about Ritalin and all those other pills, it really did scare me, they ruled by fear, they have ever since.

This is the reason I haven't taken hold of my grades and conduct and executed an immediate nose-dive, because I know if they slip enough, that I will have these pills shoved down my throat.

I don't know, I've kinda wanted to see what would happen. What I could do to really drive it over the edge.

I've hated school for quite sometime. I guess it started around 8... that's as far back as I remember anyway. 7 and below = nothing. I didn't know why I hated school, and around 10, I discovered I hated the people. The other kids were assholes, and my teachers were no better. I hated coming home even more, because my parents were abusive fuckheads. I've been suspended a couple times because some kids decided to get fresh with me. I've often been called fat, even by my parents, and it's kinda a berserk button. I've been prescribed anti depressants, and even thrown in juvy (despite the fact that I was defending myself, but I'm the kid and the adult is always right huh?) but I still hold fast to what I believe. I give thanks to this site and its amazing members whom I've recently discovered.

Years later I can confirm that I actually did and still do suffer from minor tics every so often that are characteristic of the syndrome. It's annoying, but it's not as bad as it used to be and sometimes I can quash it. If I can recall right, the teacher in question also labeled me with some other syndrome, probably ADHD or Aspbergers. Her, or someone else. She wasn't very nice about it but I think she at least had my interests in mind. I just hope they didn't consist of 'take some pills'. I have to wonder if that's a result of my schooling experience.

And Crimson, I hope things have gotten better for you. Having a Damocles' sword over your head like that had to be pretty shitty. Same to you Tsukare.

Yeah, unfortunately a lot of bored kids are getting forced on medication when they don't need but. But I can tell you first hand that there are kids who aren't getting the medications they need, either. It's just so mismatched it's incredible how incompetent the system is. Behavior modification is used over medication, so I was forced into that until I FINALLY got medication, which helped so much...

Beware. I hate having to be cynical, but mental health and schooling is one where you really must.
