RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

The second session of gameplay begins now. (Note that I've archived the results of previous gameplay, and ask you all to delete previous posts in order to reduce the number of pages this takes up.)

(OOC: X, why don't you make a character? Now would be an excellent time to add a fifth member to the party.)

(02-08-2014 03:35 PM)SubCulture Wrote:  (I scour the ground for tech.) Maybe I can find a way to make some sort of metal detector...[CHECK]

[GREAT SUCCESS] You find a rusty pole, a large magnet, a few wires, and a barely-functional electronic device that appears to track magnetic frequencies. After a few minutes you build a fully-functional, if not weird-looking, metal detector.

The party continues walking south, towards the Old Citadel, with the Lone Wanderer taking point and Calvin watching the rear.

(OOC: I'll wait for player input before beginning the wild encounters.)

Public Service Announcement: First world problems are still problems.

-as we near the citadel I have a flashback for when I was with a task force, to gain Intel, but they were going to try and bomb it, as they were given orders from someone else, behind my back. The party stops and waits for the Lone Wanderer to come to his senses, unsure of whether to do something, then follows him as he begins walking again.

In the distance they can see three shady-looking, armed characters camping behind a ridge littered with a few destroyed houses and structures. The clear assumption is that they are bandits, lying in wait for travelers to ambush.

At least we know about them. I have an idea. Someone fires a blank, and then runs. They go over there, and then we sneak up from behind and kill them. But... I would hate to waste ammo. Could someone help me find some sharp objects, like a glass shard?-John

[FAILED] (OOC: An 8. Ouch.)

Across the barren wastelands, dead small straggly things poking out of the ground called "trees" dot a small amount of the landscape while the rest is infertile soil and the remnants of old roads and "highways". There are no sharp objects to be found.

Luckily, it seems the raiders have not spotted the party yet. They may still have the advantage.

Hm, lets try and sneak up on them...they might have weapons though, although with the advantage of surprise it should be easier.

(OOC: I'll roll to see how the plan goes.

...8. Not baaad, but not good.)

[MARGINAL FAILURE] Hamilton is easily spotted by the Raiders and is shot repeatedly in the right arm, crippling it. While the sneak attack from the other three party members is nearly foiled as the Raiders check their backs, the party is at a fairly close range and manages to succeed in killing the Raiders before sustaining much damage.

The Raiders are eliminated, and the mildly wounded party can advance.

(OOC: Hansgrohe, you can either choose to walk around with a busted arm, which will hurt your accuracy, or use one of the few stimpacks you have to heal it.)

Public Service Announcement: First world problems are still problems.

The party collects the Raiders' gear.

(OOC: Rolling... 20! That's the highest it can go!)

[CRITICAL SUCCESS] They find four suits of light body armor in good condition, four rifles, plenty of ammunition for both the rifles and the pistols, two knives (melee), one pool cue (melee), one baseball bat (also melee), and one rocket launcher that appears to fire anything and everything you can stick in it (explosives).

They must choose how to allocate the weapons and whether to leave anything behind.

(It's implied that each party member will get a suit of light armor, a rifle, and some sort of melee weapon. What needs to be determined is how the ammunition is split up, who gets which melee weapon, and who gets what I'd like to call the Rock-It Launcher. Also, decide whether to leave anything behind.)

The Lone Wanderer takes both knives, a set of armor, a rifle, and a quarter of the ammunition.

Hamilton takes a set of armor, a rifle, and another quarter of the ammunition.

Two melee weapons remain, as does the Rock-It Launcher. Which of these three will Hamilton and the other two take?
