Got a job and nothing relates to school

Sure it's at a restaurant washing dishes but there is 0 shit that relates to school.

There are no formulas for how sticky cheese is or how hot a Saute pan is going to be after it's doused in water. No calculations or averages of how fast I do shit or the most effecient way to put the dishes on the rack or how big a certain plate is compared to another. Nothing for how loud the washer is from the other side of the room. Nothing is being applied. All of it I learned by myself when I was 4 or 5. Before I went to school. I've just proven through 2 days of experience school is arbitrary and unnecessary.

Even for culinary stuff. The people here can train you to cook these things. The guy that trained me for dishwashing is moving to salad and all he did in college was smoke weed and drink. He actually got kicked out.

TL;DR School isn't applied for work in a restaurant.

I live Pennsylvania, US. Maybe it's different where you are.

Minimum here is around $7.15 so I'm doing pretty well

I make 8.50 and I've been working for like a year and am pretty close to a promotion. I live in PA as well. I know a lot of people who make 7.50 or so.

As far as I've seen, most of the minimum wage hovers somewhere at $7.50, give or take 20 cents or so. I find $10/hour to be a pretty good rate though, it's how much I was paid when I worked in construction(actually more. $300 for about 23 hours of work in 2 days).

However, I'm looking to work as a flight attendant for Turkish Airlines(seeing that I know both Turkish and English is quite the help in landing a job) and I believe they get a salary of 3000 USD a month(or 5,000 Lira). Not bad for a first job, if I can land it(I don't see much difficulty. I meet or exceed most of the requisites. I just have to get my high school diploma to apply first)

I just find it strange that there isn't much information on male flight attendants. You try searching it and 99% of results all assume the flight attendant is female, even though the job description is gender-neutral.

Yeah. It's one reason I'm more interested in working outside the US. Simply having fluent English guarantees me a well paying job. I tell my friends that while they work as waiters while in college here in the US and end up with a student debt and possible difficulty in getting a job, I'll be in college in another country studying in the best college there for practically free and also holding a quite well-paying and stable job.

But my main concern is getting my damn high school diploma. Just 1 month longer(maybe after the AP test dates, I will only need to come to school for a very short time, seeing that I'll probably have 1 class still worth coming to). Course I haven't told my friends or anyone in my school I plan to become a flight attendant. Nobody is getting free flights from me!

Just gotta make sure the degree from the other country is applicable to where you are planning on living. IIRC I know someone who's dad was a neuroscientist but moved to the U.S and his degree wasn't adequate or some shit.

Seeing that I intend to stay there, it doesn't matter too much. I'm only aiming to get a masters degree from Europe(Perhaps Switzerland) but not really planning on living outside once I finish. But I can travel most places if necessary, being a dual citizen(of Turkey original and US naturalized)

I'm not 100% sure of this thought, but I'm guessing people won't be as interested in where I did my first 4 years as undergraduate as they will with where I obtained my masters/PhD. I'm thinking that is sort of how it works, but obviously not having actually reached that level, I'm simply speculating.

Perhaps there isn't much to relate with the menial work in a restaurant, but if you were the manager there'd probably be a lot of math involved. Which you can teach yourself if you're so inclined.

The minimum wage in Connecticut is $8.25/hr (as of january 2012, accoridng to google).
