RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

I evaded detention.

Small little rant or whatever

Today, I came late into gym for first period. Immediately as I walked in, I received a detention by the teacher. I was kind of not surprised I got a detention, I usually am late to class. I changed in time and then proceeded with gym class.
After finishing gym, my teacher reminded me of my detention to which I replied "but I changed in time" to which she replied "doesn't matter, you have to come to school on time."
After school ended, I went into the gym to report for my detention, but the teacher wasn't there. After waiting, I left the school. I know I'm probably going to get shit when I come back on Monday.

Any thoughts? What should I do?

"The idea I began to explore was this one: that teaching is nothing like the art of painting, where, by the addition of material to a surface, an image is synthetically produced, but more like the art of sculpture, where, by the subtraction of material, an image already locked in the stone is enabled to emerge." - John Taylor Gatto

I evaded detention.

Give the teacher a detention for not arriving on time. Prepare your own slip for added effects.

RE: I evaded detention.

When I was in gym, we only had 5 minutes to change before and at the end of class. If we were a little late, usually the teacher would be looking somewhere else or most likely didn't really care as long as we were changed and lined up on time so we never got detention for that stuff.

If we were late to our next class because we weren't given much time to change though, we never got a detention.

I agree with Brainiac, give her all kinds of shit for not being on time for your detention and drag it out through the entire day, without disrupting classes of course. If you are threatened with something like suspension, then ask to use the phone and call your mom or dad and tell them that the teacher in question is being a hypocrite and threatening to get you kicked out of school or anything that will get them over to the school quickly.

The less you try to control things, the less you need to.

I evaded detention.

My gym teacher is almost the same, but worse:
She is late all the time, but when I am late, BOOM, instant detention.
