RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

Re: Intelligent people more likely to be unhappy

I feel depressed, but I dunno if I'm intelligent. Actually, I'm pretty stupid and that's probrably what makes me sad. People call me intelligent sometimes but that's just flattery, meh.

Re: Intelligent people more likely to be unhappy

Don't misunderstand. You probably are very intelligent. But there are many aspects and types of intelligence. In the social field, in knowledge, in speech, writing, creativity, happiness, humor, street-wise, sight, and many others that can draw from the various aspects of these as well as others.
To that, there are few people that I would not consider unintelligent. Only ignorant, arrongant, and the type of people who refuse to look.
Ultimately, it comes to finding what you are good at, which can take a lifetime to find.

Re: Intelligent people more likely to be unhappy

I do agree that intelligent people are more like to be unhappy to some level. There are cases when an intelligent people can be likely to be happy in cases where they can be easily triggered by the environment, the atmosphere, the culture, and the places they are going into. The better sentence would be intelligent people are more likely to have some emotional problems that may occurs when they are looking at the world due to the fact that they have an ability to connect the world while studying how's the world is like. There are many type of intelligence and not all could fit this sentence which is intelligent people are more likely to be unhappy. If you are a wise, young, and intelligent person. Then you could be happy going into a roller coaster.

As the more intelligent people you are, the more likely you'll see the flaws with the world and the people around you. This philosophy can apply to the majority of the person who have great ability to do languages and their brain is set up on this case. If your brain is set up for communication purposes, then you can see so many shocking flaws when it comes to looking at the way the people speaks. If your brain is set up for visual art purposes, then you can actually have the ability to comprehend the people around you and know what is the flaw with the society. Even those who have communication skills can have the ability of what people with extremely high visual intelligent can do.

Emotionally intelligent people would realize better emotional habits breed prosperity.

I wouldn't consider the majority of people here, emotionally savy.

Yeah and if we all lived by the bible, this world would be:

B) totally unfair to women
C) lets face it here, we'd all be worshiping a FAKEMwahaha

RE: Intelligent people more likely to be unhappy

When I see people doing good things, in the back of my head I want them to fail, because I'm so used to negativity. If they do fail, I feel better (let's forget the irony for a minute) knowing I was right.

RE: Intelligent people more likely to be unhappy

I'm intelligent and I'm not depressed at all. I do get depressed at times (who doesn't?) but overall I am pretty happy. I definitely understand why intelligent people might be more prone to depression.

I used to feel the same way myself.
Still do sometimes.

RE: Intelligent people more likely to be unhappy

I'm unhappy, I wonder if I'm intelligent. I like to think that I am but that might just be because I'm pretty narcissistic.
