RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017
The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.
If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.
To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.
I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.
I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.
I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.
I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.
Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.
Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.
Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.
We all are addicted to the internet for a number of reasons but most times something keeps us glued to it and this post basically asks what that something is..
There's a lot of things that draw me to the internet whether it be the piracy or the people but what really draws me to the internet is the fact that I can be myself or maybe the person I want to be without giving a shit about reprecussions.
Real life pretty much sucks ass and truth will get you locked up, killed or pretty much fired from your job and shunned.
seriously though, I'd say the freedom to do what you want and not get slammed by the pigs. they can boast copyright all they want but it wont keep me from pirating, and there are no internet police to arrest you if you raid a website. true un-reinable freewill.
A tool to help me become the person I was meant to be.

The internet can be entertaining, like TV, but is also so much more. The internet is the largest social gathering place in the world and also the largest resource of knowledge in the world. In fact, contrary to popular belief, recent studies show that internet users are actually more intelligent, informed, and social than other people.
Mostly porn. However I am also drawn to the web becuase it is an endless supply of information, lulz and a good way to waste time.
Whilst some work diligently there are those who ask why. I am one of them

This has been a test of the emergency pointless argument system. Had this been a real pointless argument, someone would have been called a facist.

Inside sources say that Carla Franklin has had more dick in her than a public urinal.
The fact that i can talk to my freinds, both IRL and virtual, for free - and that i get kmore hugs on MSN than i do IRL -_-

1. Porn.
2. Music.
3. Freedom to be myself socially.
4. Codes and walkthroughs I use when I'm getting my ass kicked in a game.
5. Information I look up just for the sake of knowing it, and for later use in my stories.
Buying a high powered computer: 500 bucks
Getting gift wrap: 10 bucks maybe
Seeing the horror on that special someone's face once they tear off the gift wrap and see a Windows 98: Priceless.
I'll see you in Hell....AAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAA!!!!
Apart from being a source of information and entertainment, it's an escape. It's an alternate world, and a one where I don't have to be aware of my bad hair day.
Another good thing is that in RL, there's only so many people you know. And you just won't meet an Esperantist with an interest in Laponese history among your close ones, but there's probably whole webrings of them on the Internet. And the same goes for any other cause or interest.
Don't take life so seriously, it isn't permanent.

the internet is my only link to the world beyond my podunk town that I love, the only place where I can learn about opinions other than my parents' and brother's and the few friends I talk to daily.
If I had a car, I'd be gone from the hours of 11 AM to 5 PM, exploring and getting out.
But my parents never take me anywhere and my mom hates letting me walk/bike anywhere further than two blocks away. We're locked away about two miles into the suburbs so there's nothing interesting around...
Gah..

Carla Franklin may be a whore. She may be a wonderful, kind, moral woman. Seeing as I don't know her personally, I cannot know for sure. However, I find her actions (suing Google, requesting the personal info of her critics, getting angry over random internet idiocy that she should ignore and be bigger than, trying to get this site in trouble because of a few users' commentary on the situation, etc.) pretty ridiculous and unwarranted. If she didn't want people to to be talking about/judging her, well 1. that's impossible, she's a human, and 2. she shouldn't have been a model or agreed to be on film. AND 3. she DEFINITELY shouldn't have sued Google and made all this fuss over a few random idiots whom she probably won't ever know expressing their opinion. Mmkay? MMKAY.

I think Buenaventura Durruti is a pretty cool guy. eh kills fascists and doesnt afraid of ruins. The quickest way to kill a revolution is to wait for it.

I chose it because it's a John and Yoko pic, and I was looking for one for my sig, and it was the only one small enough.

i think its the books and the knowledge in school or anywhere else their isnt a bigger source of knowledge pictures and freedom it breaks boundaries and helps you interact with people very far away for example a person in china can talk to a person in america or a a person in brazil can speak to a person in uk the world has shrunk
It's about the only way I talk to my friends any more. I'm just a phone-call kind of guy. And it's nice not having to use my voice.

TRIGGER WARNING: THIS TRIGGER WARNING CONTAINS TRIGGER WARNINGS!
Dear Tumblrites:Despite your wrongly self-diagnosedPTSD, no line ofscientific evidencesuggests people can be triggered over theinternet. Triggering works through thesenses(i.e. smell, taste, touch, vision, hearing.) but it goes throughreal time; if you're not experiencing it in real life as it'sACTUALLY HAPPENINGin yourACTUALlife, youCANNOTbe triggered. The only exception to this is if you have aseizure, but then again, that's triggered byepilepsy(i.e. rapidly-changing flashing lights)NOT PTSD. Remembering a bad incident is NOT the same thing as having aflashback. When you remember, youthink; when youflashback, youfeel.
