RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017
The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.
If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.
To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.
I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.
I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.
I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.
I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.
Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.
Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

Unfairness in the school system
although there are many things wrong with the school system there is one thing that is constantly a issue of debate and anger amongst me and my friends and i was wondering what ur experiences on this situation were.
it really annoys me how the really bad kids, that swear at teachers, break stuff and in general be really disruptive get away with everything whereas the kids that are only a low level disruptive influence get in loads of trouble. it seems to me that if ur rude and threatening you don't get in trouble which makes me tempted to just go the full way and become fully blown disruptive and rude so that i stop getting detentions and having teachers in my face the whole time.
i mean a few years ago there was an ofstead inspection and the school took all the really bad kids away for a trip somewhere so they got to go somewhere fun when we were made to work extra hard and be on our best behavior!
its madness how the not-so-bad people get all the blame just because they won't fight back and be rude when surely the bad people should get what they deserve there shouldn't be exeptions to the rules, if they're going to inforce them enforce them on everyone.
also the clever people get alot of stick aswell- even more so than a less able person its unfair

Re: Unfairness in the school system
I disagree with your definition of "good" and "bad". People who choose not to follow the rules forced upon them by a self-declared authority are not bad.
The unfairness lies elsewhere, in power distribution, in compulsory attendance.

Agreed with puchiko, my teachers always shoot bull by saying "Well, the good have to suffer for the bad"

Re: Unfairness in the school system
im sorry if i didn't clarify properly i was typing this in a hurry, what i mean by bad kids isn't that they just mess around and break things and disagree with the school system, they are the sort of people that go around bullying others and beating them up for no aparent reason. the ones that yell at teachers when they havent done anything to them- i mean i can understand if they've done something but if not well in my opinion its just not nice- but thats just my opinion on the matter

So you're tempted to beat people up? ...

I think he means that they not only don't follow the rules of the school but also act violently to other students.

Re: Unfairness in the school system
I agree with you totally, my school is the same.
I would class myself as a 'good' student, I get on with my work never really late unless there is a good reason. I don't give the teachers any lip yet if I step out of line the teachers will punish me more than somebody else who is a 'bad' student.
I will give an example Joe* Is regularly late lets say ever other lesson is about 10 - 15 minutes late, Never does his homework and comes in every lesson smelling of smoke when smoking is strictly prohibited, and gives the teacher lip ever lesson. Rarely does work, Basically just sits there listening to his headphones.
Now he does not get in any trouble however if I listened to my headphones I get shouted at, If im 5minutes late I get a detention.
So mainly I think it is the bad kids get away lightly as they know that they are more likely to give them jip back.
Also another point is if a 'bad' child does the work say what a 'good' student does he/she is rewarded more and the 'good' child is just brushed away.
*(Not real name obviously for privacy)
I used to be "The circus" as I forgot my login, but then hey-ho I remembered it.

Re: Unfairness in the school system
My old school was the same. Kids bad actions who were constantly doing terrible things got overlooked. When a good-meaning student does one bad thing, however, the shit hits the fan.
I highly suggest Mobb Deep's albums The Infamous and Hell on Earth, if you have not listened to it yet.
