RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017
The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.
If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.
To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.
I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.
I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.
I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.
I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.
Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.
Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

No seriously though, I cannot stand the discussions most of my friends have, I mean, I'm a bigger video game enthusiast than most, but ALL they talk about is Call of Duty or Fallout 3, it's brain-melting.
And fights that happened, or are going to happen, or may never happen but just amount to stupid hard-man comments.

I don't think adults really thinks that teens are stupid. They were once teenagers as well. Maybe because they have done some stupid things before that they don't want teenagers doing the same thing.

Re: Is it any suprise adults think teens are stupid?
Poor boy is just- ugh, goddamn stupid.
Here's my thouht; no, it's no surprise that they think we're stupid, and its no one's fault but society as a whole. It really springs back to the whole child labor concerns back in the 1800's and then we were slowly institutionalized. We're institutionalized because of whatever reason- fuck you, I refuse to say brainwashing yet- and because of this, until we are finished going through the institutionalization process, we're considered stupid by society.
See, gentlemen, it all comes down to the fact that society is fucking retarded.

If we were to get upset about our perceived intelligence of other people would we be much healthier or more productive?
That being said I do find it draining when I hear about guys talking about girls "She won't like me" "I have a crush on her but I don't know what she thinks about me" and when I'm ready to help they don't want to succeed because they decide they won't try to do stuff outside of being in the same social circle day after day locked into Predictable habits of action.

If this is about that other thread, that's still a good way to act. It's not going to happen all the time, in fact, venting is a good thing every now and then. But, at least trying to not be a cunt is all one can really ask for, and don't cling to hatred like it's a life jacket, because it's more like a two ton weight.

Re: Is it any suprise adults think teens are stupid?
I remember posting in this thread aye.
I don't think a lot of teens are stupid, merely brainwashed and/or conforming, trying to fit into today's society.

Re: Is it any suprise adults think teens are stupid?
It's not really a surprise. My little cousin (she's 10) is actually a bright kid, and smart enough to get things but... also a walking facepalm, and someone I can't stand because of her lack of interest in more serious stuff than Twilight, Sims 3 and crappy music provided by her peers. I had to download the crap for her lately, so I know her "tastes" are horrible. The only few songs that didn't come from school, aren't actually bad. So, people are morons because they like the herd. I already gave up on talking her out of that bullshit, though.

Re: Is it any suprise adults think teens are stupid?
First of all, I can totally relate to the OP. In my high school it seems most people couldn't give less of a shit about anything.
I think that most of them act this way because they think they don't have any reason to - They can't actively change anything (like political issues, for example), and these matters don't actively intrude on their daily lives (except for being a prisoner to the public school system, but they're far too brainwashed to see it that way).
As for refusing to acknowledge people for what they're really like, never thinking about anything, some people are just naturally stupid/self-absorbed/ignorant/etc. Not much you can do about that.
What helps for me is to just not care what "they" think. If they want to be stupid, that's their choice to make! Ignoring them has generally made my life easier.

Re: Is it any suprise adults think teens are stupid?
For some reason I am finding this thread very lolz-worthy. You guys are all retards.
People talk about what they like with people who like the same things. We complain about school and talk about politics here on SS because we enjoy doing it. When I'm with my friends, we talk about video games and anime because we have that in common. It is unfair to judge teens in general just because they prefer to reminisce on their drunkenness rather than ponder the intricacies of quantum electrodynamics.
On the other hand, there has always and will always be people saying, "Kids these days are worse than ever." But c'mon people, 2000 years ago Socrates said the exact same thing. So it's not really a surprise what adults think.
I've never let my school interfere with my education.

Thank god kirby in the house with respect to how you worded your statement.
People are different and its funny how alot of people here fall into the same trap their peers do(thinking themselves superior just because they can see past the norm or because their interested in things they deem superior).

Re: Is it any suprise adults think teens are stupid?
Some of the things you talk about get on my nerves such as "oh my god he so hot"ect. But like kirby said games and stuff is just common interest, and how can you not think of something like games or something when your at school.
The whole dating thing just doesnt make sense to me.Apparently looks are everything ahhh
whatever im getting off topic

Re: Is it any suprise adults think teens are stupid?
There is a clear difference between being into something out of choice, and being forced by peers. People are AFRAID to talk about their real interests, instead of faking up stories of degradation.
