RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

Furcadia

Hi guys!

Alrighty, I'm here spreading an advertisement because I think some of you might find enjoyment in this other game I'm playing on the 'net. It's called Furcadia. I may have mentioned it once or twice on these forums, but, I thought I'd go further in depth with a description of what it is, for those of you who don't know, and maybe connect with you who already play.

Furcadia is a game where the players are the ones creating the content. Basically, the actual developer created part consists of 9 major maps, which don't have a whole lot to do on them. They're main purpose is to provide a place for the players to upload their creations, called dreams, which are where the real magic starts. It's almost like a mall. The main maps are the hallways, which each store is accessible from, but the stores are where the real draw is at.

Anyhow, dreams are player created areas, where the players’ imagination can run wild. Dreams are areas, usually created around a theme; where anything from friendly chat to serious role playing does on. The most extravagant dreams are usually large towns, or ships of some kind, where simpler dreams range from personal houses to small gardens. Anyhow, each dream contains its own community of players, interested in the general theme of the dreams.

I spend a lot of my time in the Roleplay dreams, where I've had great fun in the past year that I've been on Furcadia. Role-playing, for those of you aren’t completely familiar, is basically assuming the role of a character, and acting (or in this case) writing out their words and actions in regards to events going on around the character. On Furcadia, each person makes a post which details the actions and words of their character, and others around you, also role-playing, have their characters respond. It’s more fun than it sounds like, as it challenges your writing skills, develops your sense of imagination, and connects you with other people around the globe.

It’s more of a thinking game than Runescape, and one that, once you’ve settled in, genuinely appreciates your presence.

Though it’s not a browser game, the download is small and I haven’t had ANY trouble with it slowing down my computer or causing errors at all. It’s also all free. The things you can pay for really aren’t necessary, though nice to have, and nobody I’ve encountered thinks themselves all superior for having them.

It’s just a fantastic community, and game.

So if you do choose to give it a look around, or currently play, you can contact me on either of my accounts; Leona Draste, or Draste. I’d be happy to show you around, RP with you, and answer your questions as best I can.

I hope I see a few of you guys in game!

What do you have against Furries?

Hidden stuff:
TRIGGER WARNING: THIS TRIGGER WARNING CONTAINS TRIGGER WARNINGS!

Dear Tumblrites: Despite your wrongly self-diagnosed PTSD, no line of scientific evidence suggests people can be triggered over the internet. Triggering works through the senses (i.e. smell, taste, touch, vision, hearing.) but it goes through real time; if you're not experiencing it in real life as it's ACTUALLY HAPPENING in your ACTUAL life, you CANNOT be triggered. The only exception to this is if you have a seizure, but then again, that's triggered by epilepsy (i.e. rapidly-changing flashing lights) NOT PTSD. Remembering a bad incident is NOT the same thing as having a flashback. When you remember, you think; when you flashback, you feel.
