RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

I scared the administration today. :D

So, yesterday, my mother picked me up from school two periods early. She had called and made all of the necessary arrangements with the attendance office, as she has done a million times before, and showed up on time to collect me. However, the idiotic attendance office screwed up; they forgot to send me a pass to get out of class, and when I went down to the attendance office to explain that I had to leave NOW or be fined by the doctor, they acted all puzzled and had to search for my permission to leave.

So, after about 10 minutes of dealing with their idiocy, I was cleared to leave the building and so, out I went.

Fast forward to later yesterday evening. The phone rings, and it's the school reporting that I had been truant to 7th and 8th period. Hah. Truant I wasn't! I was with my mother, at the doctor's office! And I'll be damned if I'm going to take a black mark for something I didn't do!

So, this morning I waltzed down to the Administration office to contest my truancy.

"Hi, is Mr. _____ here?" I asked innocently.

"Yeah, he's in there," says the lady at the front desk.

So, I step into his office, towering above him as he sits in his swivel chair, and begin to explain the situation... with a *hint* of anger in my voice. The facade I was putting on was rather fantastic. I was completely enjoying myself, yet I must have looked and sounded quite angry from their perspective. Halfway through though, the man says, "Wait a minute... Who ARE you?"

You see, I'm not a regular in that particular set of offices. I'm not a disciplinary issue, so I never set foot in there except on my own, determinedly nasty, accord.

"Me? I'm Aviator (real name actually used). I don't believe we've met before." *Grin*

And the fella looks at the secratary outside the door; they exchange glances, and he goes, "Oh god, I don't want to [meet you now/deal with you ever again]." The way he said it though, was perfect in tone; I completely intimidated the both of them in their own offices, without even trying. Haha!

And then they fixed my attendance without any furthur questioning or investigation (though I did have to listen to a lecture on proper sign out procedures; worth it though). Fantastic!

Anyway, aside from the rest of the day, it was a good day. Smile Just thought I'd share.

Re: I scared the administration today. :D

Haha, sure. I'd love to. I wish they'd let us have a student lawyer program; I'd kick ass in the Dean's office; I'd venture to say I know the school handbook policies better than several of the staff members.

I thrive on that sort of stuff; any time I get to argue with a staff member over curriculum and the point of education, it makes my day. Biggrin
