RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

Homebrewing Your own Beer!

Overview: Ok so most of us know that in the US there is this dumb law that prevents minors and pretty much everyone under the age of 21 (unless you're a marine) from directly purchasing beer. Which by the way should be protested and questioned at every available opportunity.

Solution Guess what, you can legally acquire GREAT beer without getting other people involved or asking others to buy it for you. Commercial beer tastes pretty meh compared to the alternative I'm about to suggest.

LEGALLY you can purchase all the ingredients necessary to make your own home brew

Ingredients For your first batch you'll need grains or sugar. You can can mix and match anything sweet. Make sure you use corn sugar if your using sugar directly. ( ideally the grains of choice)
-Barley
-Oats
-Wheat
-rye
+sugar if you want

The next item you can legally purchase for your beer are the hops
,hops is a flower related to the hemp leaf which helps flavours the beer.

+hops

The last but most important ingredient are the single celled organisms, the yeast. These little critters will turn most of that sugar into alcohol and carbonate.

+yeast

Equipment:
StovePot: For boiling wort in hot water (Sugar based grains).

Non Wood Spatula; For Stirring the ingredients

Chlorine/Bleach: Sanitize everything the beer touches (bucket pot spatula, siphon)

Bucket with an airlock: This is where you will store the beer (1 week) to allow for fermentation. The airlock is to allow carbon dioxide to escape so the beer doesn't pop open.

Siphon for tranfering the beer from bucket to keg or bottles.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Instructions

~Sanitize cooking pot with bleach, Rinse
~ Fill With Water (Spring, Tap Mountain Dew Any will do)
~ Bring water to a near boil and Add malt extract, Grains and/or Sugar, honey, ect
~ Stir and add hops
~ Sanitize Airlock Bucket/or Carboy
~Cool pot back to 68-75 degrees
~ Pour pot contents into the bucket/carboy
~ Add water if you wish and finally yeast to the bucket
~Stir and cover tightly
~set up airlock
~1 week Later~
~Sanitize the keg/bottles
~Sanitize the Siphon
~Bottle the beer or Keg the beer
~Let sit for another week

~Ready to drink Enjoy

What does it look like??

Guess what?

Beer is pretty nasty.

Anything that ever happened or will... one condition, it has to be amazing.

Sir, I beg to differ.

It's lovely when you've had too many to disregard the taste.

I think it's a great idea. I can't believe many of you guys don't like it.

It's just hard to keep secret from the parents! You need a big house.

In america do you smoke weed rather than drink?

This. I don't know why so many disagree. Because beer is bad for you? To an extent.

I;d definitely drink than smoke. Smoking is a stupid idea, it fucks up your lungs.

This.

Personally, I don't like beer. I've never had it though, but I've had barley soup, which is basically non-alcoholic beer, and I've had beer-bread, they're nasty.

Come on guys, if this thread were made by anyone other than Mystery (or TA) You would be worshiping the thread right now, don't deny it.

Beer's tasty. Depends on your taste. Be sure to keep EVERYTHING STERILE when brewing beer, else you will get vinegar. And you do not want vinegar, most of the time.
