RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

School/Prison similarities.

I find it quite disturbing that for me everyday school and prison or jails are looking more and more alike.
Most of us know that security in our schools is bettering more and more.
1. Camera's
2. Cops in the hallways.
3. Police dogs
3. Routine drug tests.
4. Drug searches (under suspicious belief)..if they want to they will.
5. Mentally have the same effect as prisons.
6. Another thread- school walkouts are illegal..
7. They steal youths rights.
I think that it is crazy how unbelievably much money schools spend on making us more "Safe"? Cuckoo

It's the safety of the system to be intact and productive, not personal safety of those that are viewed as potential enemies.

Adding on the school's are always right and there is defiantly a "blame children or teens" mentality.
So yes we are all viewed as potential enemies how wrong. No

My school actually likes like a prison from the outside. Bars on the window and everything.

The only good signature is a dead signature.

Re: School/Prison similarities.

MY basic school had razor wire on the fences. And bars on windows are pretty much anywhere here, so kids won't run when someone's calling the pigs or pillstuffers.

Our school dont have police dogs / random drug screening. though there has been an increase in the amount of police around the place.

Re: School/Prison similarities.

I'm quite all right now, but the middle school was horror. They sealed all doors except two, of which the front was for staff only(so the school would always seem peaceful, regardless of backyard shitstorm). All of the doors were locked and guarded, and we were let out only on the beginning/end of the day. The staff found so many reasons to deny us an outside break that only time we've actually seen some sky was at a hot september/june day.

Re: School/Prison similarities.

The security at my primary school was better than at my school now. They had cameras everywhere, and the doors could only be opened by one teacher and a headteacher, from the inside by inputting a code onto a keypad. It drove me insane.

Re: School/Prison similarities.

My school's relatively small, so we don't have cameras/ huge loads of police officers/ drug screenings. The doors aren't locked from the inside and we don't have police dogs. We do, however, have a fuckload of kids (our school was built for 300 kids not 900 :rolleyesSmile so the rules are VERY strict. Seriously, you can get a refferal FOR READING and you can get suspended if you say a really mild swear word like hell or damn, which in my mind really aren't swear words. We also have a campus guard and a police officer, but we barely see the police officer. Our vice principal is HUGE bastard and just abot punishes us about everything, like saying "Oh my god" or not going outside (walking on the stupid track in the freezing cold for 5 minutes. Fun) even though we're not finished eating.

Re: School/Prison similarities.

My school's "Security System" is a pathetic joke. While we have cameras around every corner, they are in positions where we can move them to our liking. If something is about to go down, someone just reaches up and turns the camera towards the ceiling the always get reset the next morning, but they can never use them to prove anything because it's illegal for the cameras to record audio.

The scariest part is that NO ONE NOTICES.

their pee should hv been shot out like a ki blast breaking the rocks

oh and also No one has any rights. We're free, rights create invisible restrictions. But we live in a society where the majority accepts rights to be true.

I'd rather go to prison than be submitted to the scared straight program, for fucks sake.
