RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

Prison V.School

If prison have a lot more security for people involved in it and put stricter regulation regarding matters like rape. Then would you trade this for school without having to go through compulsory schooling?

Re: Prison V.School

School isn't worse/better than prison. School = Prison. The good thing with prison is free food and bed and shit. The bad thing is the fact that once you're out of prison, getting a job is hard and in prison you're with dangerous criminals (though in school you're with criminals who haven't been in prison yet hehe). I've always wanted to go to prison though, I seriously have no idea why. But I'd rather go to prison than school. Maybe it's a fantasy? lol

Re: Prison V.School

If I had access to a computer, a library, and was exempt from prison outsourcing, yes I would most definitely trade school for prison. (Assuming I got a diploma out of it, and there was no rape/murder/whatever...)

Actually most med/min security prisons are safe. Rape doesn't happen often to non sex offenders, there are rec rooms in minimum sec., there are some worksheet's but mostly its you picking hatever you want to read/write/research

Re: Prison V.School

I wonder if you can get ISS for trying to go into the ISS room.
That's better than actual prison. Cux you get to go home at 2:45.

In ISS we still go home at 3, but its amazing cause once you get your work done you get a whole day to yourself.

On topic, that cell has a TV, personal locker, Coffee Machine, what looks like a fairly good bed, Damn.

Re: Prison V.School

I'm going to guess, and I might be wrong on this, that school really isn't as bad as prison.
Srsly. School sucks. Prison, is, well... Prison. I'd rather go to school. No contest. That's like asking me if I'd rather being in an uncomfortably hot room or be cremated alive.

Look at the cell, is that really worse than school? Look at the luxuries this man has.

I said 2:45 because that was the normal time to get out of school. Most of the schools I went to went from 7:45 to 2:45.

ISS is better than regular school because you get to be left alone in a cubicle.
ISS is better than prison because you only have to stay there for 7 hours a day.
Although if your parents are horrible, then maybe prison would be better.

I like my family, friends, and relative freedom. And I get to go home to a better place than that after school. Like I said: School sucks, prison is..well, Prison.
