RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017
The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.
If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.
To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.
I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.
I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.
I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.
I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.
Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.
Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.
-SoulRiser

I think Buenaventura Durruti is a pretty cool guy. eh kills fascists and doesnt afraid of ruins.

Re: Portal for Free
One day, I NEED to play half life... actually, I found out my dad had it for some console or another (I'd like to say sega) I just found it and was like O SHI-
But, the Saturn was my dad's so I can never use it.

Re: Portal for Free
The only HL for a Sega console was the unreleased DC version. (but it exists)
More likely PS2, as it had an official port.
Problem, officer?

Re: Portal for Free
See, now THAT'S fucking confusing. We didn't own any of those at the time.
Wait. It was released for the computer, too right? I know it was in a sega case. But now that I think of it, this family doesn't have much of a habit of putting CDs back where they go...
It was probably for PC then. I thought something was weird about Half-Life on Sega... I just couldn't get a good look at it, because I was cleaning.

Re: Portal for Free
Yeah, what confused me the most was, Half-Life graphics were typically too good for Sega, as far as I know. Plus, Sega was made quite a few years before half-life.

Or otherwise, Dreamcast. (but then again it would have to be swap-booted as a backup, people couldn't make selfboots back then)

I'm better at things like that than my dad is. So I doubt it.
We only ever owned a Genesis, and a Saturn (But I think the Genesis broke)

Re: Portal for Free
GLaDOS was such an epic character, made the game so damn enjoyable. I can't wait for Portal 2 to come out, I definitely have to get that game. Portal was such a fun game, despite it's severe lack of length. I wonder if Portal 2 will be a full game on its own and have a lot more content, I hope so.
Anyone else fall in love instantly with "Still Alive"?

You obviously weren't there when TDF, CC and I broke into song.
Also, Coulton will be doing more songs (plurality, a lot plurality) for Portal 2.

Obviously, I wasn't. And that is excellent news. Coulton's songs are fantastic, I can't wait to hear what he comes up with for Portal 2.

Yes he is. Music is also incorporated into the game somehow. I can wait to see what they do with it.

Yeah, you would. Considering your horrible emulation skills.

Yes, it was, considering that when I configure everything correctly and hit "Play" nothing happens.

Well, seeing how I did pretty much everything people instructed me to do, and the info for the game was up where it should have been, I'm pretty sure I did.
