RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

Is anyone doing IB? (IBDP/IBCP Students)

Hello everyone.

I know I posted a lot here on the SSFs website, and I'm sorry if I do it too often. I find that this forum has been the most helpful, and beneficial compared to other support forums.

Anyways, I'm doing IBCP and I'm a bit nervous. Is anyone doing IB, or has anyone done any form of IB? Do you have any advice, or tips? Should I be nervous? (And oh, I won't be fully doing IB until next year, and the following year) Has anyone ever had to drop out of IB? Or considered it? And if you considered dropping out of it, or not doing it - what made you?

I'm mainly nervous because I just don't think I'm a good fit for it. As far as the coursework, I don't really mind it. I'm already taking one Pre-IB course, and an AP Course; which I'm balancing the workload pretty great. My counsellor said the coursework is the equivalency of my Pre-IB Course, and my AP course. The only difference is just that you have those community service projects, and essays (for those doing DP) and if that's the case, then I think I can handle it. I'm just concerned that the teacher may teach a little fast, since I don't learn as fast.

Thanks in advance.

I have no idea what IB is, so can't comment on that.

I'm deducing that IBCP stands for International Baccalaureate Career Program? I've had no experience with it. My only knowledge is that AP and CLEP tests will get you college credits and help speed things up.

Hey there,

Thanks for replying to my post - and I apologize for the delay in response time, as I'm now just checking this post (since I got caught up with things around home and school.)

IBDP basically stands for International Baccalaureate Diploma Program.
IBCP basically stands for International Baccalaureate Career Program.

*If I am correct. I do know it is something along those lines.

Essentially, they're basically programs that help prepare you for your career (for CP goers) and either route you go, both programs prepare for you for college success. And you can knock out some college credits while doing IB (at least from what I've heard from my friend who's also going to be doing IB.)

Hey again SoulRiser!

I remember you lol, thanks for replying to my post as well - and well, encouraging me to post as much as I want haha.

It's all right if you aren't sure what IB is. IB is basically like a college preparatory program/career preparatory program. You can also earn college credits (just like AP courses)

Thank you!

Yeah, you've got it right Razz
IBCP stands for International Baccalaureate Career Program.

It's all right if you don't have, nor have had any experience with it. I'm currently in an AP course right now, and I'm handling the coursework fairly pretty good actually. I'm just not sure how the test will be like, so I'm not sure what my success rate will be - but hopefully, good. As far as CLEP tests/exams, I'm not sure what those are. I'm not sure if my high school offers them either.

But thank you for replying though
Wink
