RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017
The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.
If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.
To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.
I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.
I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.
I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.
I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.
Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.
Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

Unsafe Learning Environment, Please Help!
My school has exposed asbestos in the building and mold behind some of the AC units. I would like to make my and my fellow students environment safer, but if I complain me, my sister, and my dad who works there will probably be kicked out. What should I do?
I should note that this is a Catholic Private High School with a very corrupt administration. When one of their elementary schools needed a new roof because, of you guessed it, asbestos, they didn't lift a damned finger. The community pulled together and was able to fund a new roof, thankfully.
To really prove the corruptness, our superintendent spite-fired our old principal because they both applied for that spot, but he got it. None of the other staff in the building were informed until the day of. The best part was that the administration burned bridges with the people who had money and influence in our area with that move.
TL;DR-Exposed asbestos, corrupt administration, please help

Wear a mask at school, encouraging your friends to do so as well?

It would be against dress-code and I would be flayed alive. I will keep this in consideration however. Thanks!

Make an anonymous complaint to your local mayor and superintendent and send an anonymous tip to the local media.
If you want to be a different fish, you've got to jump out of the school.

I agree with TheCancer, that would be the best option. If that doesn't work, change schools, public school really isn't that bad no matter what you've heard. In my experience anyway, I guess it depends.
well would you look at the time its time to gay

Superintendent is corrupt as fuck. I have listened to my dad on her and based on that profile she won't do a damned thing. I'll go with the other two I think..

Unsafe Learning Environment, Please Help!
Quick Update! I sent in my tip to the local news, but I had to use my junk email so I fear it won't be taken seriously. I want to genuinely thank you all for the help you guys have given me. It means a lot!

If it doesn't work, send it again and try to emphasize the importance of publicizing this, as well as how children in danger and negligent adults causing said danger makes people angry, and anger gets ratings

Also you can anonymously alert the members of your local school board. Someone might make it a pet cause. Another route is your local city council.

The school board of trustees was dissolved and I'm pretty sure my school is outside my local school boards legislation. Now that I think about it...the area my school would fall under would probably be district 150, which is incompetent as high hell. I'll keep this mind though, thanks.
