RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

RE: Trump won

I apologize.

Hello, traveler.

This is an ancient account I have not used in a long time. My views have changed much in the intervening months and years.

Nonetheless, I refuse to clean it up. Pretending that I've held my current views since the beginning of time is what we in the industry call a lie. Asking people to do so contributes to moralistic self-loathing. "See, those people have nothing damning! I do! I'm truly vile!"

Because you can never be a good person with a single blemish on the moral record, I thought that simply entertaining some thoughts made me irredeemable. Though I don't care for his writing style, William Faulkner presents a good counterexample. He went from being a typical Southern racist to supporting the civil rights movement. These days we'd yell at him for that, probably.

People are allowed to change their views.

Nevertheless, this period of my life has informed some of how I am today. In good ways and bad ways. To purge it would be to do a disservice to history. Perhaps it will not make anyone sympathetic, but it may help someone understand.

If, after reading all this, you still decide to use the post above as evidence that I am evil today, ask yourself if you have never disagreed with the moral code you now follow. In all likelihood you did, at some point. If some questions are verboten, and the answer is "how dare you ask that," don't expect your ideological opponents to ever change their minds.

According to Julian Assange, Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton as choices is like Cholera or Gonorrhea as choices. If only more third parties got more attention in the corporate owned media like in most other western countries, Gary Johnson, Jill Stein, Zoltan Istvan, Darrell Castle, and others would have had more of a chance. There's social media and yet people would rather not search for alternatives to these two corrupt, racist, sexual predator clowns?

Yep, that's what's so stupid about these results. Not only has, as you suggested, Trump won with fewer votes than Mitt Romney LOST with, but it shows that only about a QUARTER of the electorate has decided this election, and even THEN Hillary won the popular vote... if only the retarded Electoral College weren't so fucked in the ass.

Elections in America tend to have low voter turnout in general, and this is no exception. However, as this Vox.com article explains, it has almost nothing to do with the vote suppression laws which you may have heard about. The states Clinton lost were too big a margin for vote suppression to make a difference as it turns out.

I will admit that I myself can't believe Hillary lost in such a way (Pennsylvania? SERIOUSLY?!), but... it happened. The racist wankers got what they wanted, and now they're gonna bathe in that hell they put themselves and others in.

Just something worthy to note, even though Trump did directly attack people of color, LGBT people and many others, the policies that he propose seem to hit the white working class the absolute worst... you know, the electorate that VOTED FOR HIM IN THE FIRST PLACE...

I should have known that eventually all that smearing against Clinton would eventually do her in... I hope the Democratic Party will get their next hope in 2020. I'm just gonna put my bets on Senator Cory Booker... he's a really great guy, y'know.

Also, I dream of "Cory in the House" to be taken seriously as well as literally... let's see how it plays out.

Didn't vote but glad it was not Killary. I read somewhere she wanted to extend the amount of school days. Yuck Trump wants to dismantle the DoEd and end common core. That would be a huge boost for SS and alternative education communities everywhere.

Want to ruin it? Ask them whether Jesus would agree with supporting a guy who divorced multiple times, cheated on his wife, and bragged about sexual assault and fornication.

I love the Christians who voted Trump and believe it was God's will. I wasn't aware God was fond of fornicators, adulterers, and the vain(especially my understanding is that pride is often considered a major sin).

You don't have to support the man himself. Though I don't support him directly I find him a lot better than Killary, and I wholeheartedly support his views he has on education. Ben Carson (another guy I don't directly support at all) has very favorable views on homeschooling.

The right does support homeschooling, but for the wrong reasons. Think those people who have never been exposed to someone else with a different religion, and who go on to act like a mini-westboro and yell about going to hell at people minding their own business outside college libraries... they want to allow that level of religious indoctrination.

The U.S. is not, and never was a democracy of any kind in the first place. It was oligarchy/plutocracy from day one. The American founding fathers were almost all very rich and almost all of them were racist and owned slaves.

Take a look at the electoral college for example. It's a very undemocratic institution to begin with. I personally admire a direct democracy.

His views on education mean nothing. He's got thin skin and basically proposes things that are impractical and harmful to the country. His supporters are completely retarded to the extent they think pizza has to do with child sex.

I don't want to be harsh, but the idea that Trump is great because of his "policy" on education despite the absolute lack of intellect shown is just absurd. Calling her "Killary" also implies a stance beyond just your view on education since the idea of "Killary" is just some bullshit spouted by hypocrites who can't handle criticism of their beliefs to the point they claimed to have voted Trump because they were called deplorable(while continuing to be so).

RE: Trump won

Trump or Hillary... Trump is the superior choice in my opinion. I didn't vote because I do not consider government legitimate. However, the hysterics from the left are laughable and the dick sucking worship from the alt-right is just as laughable.

Just as bad as state indoctrination through public schools. State indoctrination is worse actually.

Either way, homeschooling allows for maximum freedom, public schooling does not. So if religious lunatics want to allow more homeschooling freedom it is a net positive for freedom. Secularism in homeschooling is growing.

Trump won

I find it odd that anyone on this forum could be sad that Trump won - he will be the only president since Regan to even support weakening the education system.

What political issue could be a greater concern than our entire population being forced to waste the first 1/5 of their lives? Aside from abortion if you're of the pro-life persuasion (since that's 1/5 of our population being outright denied their lives), I don't see how someone could dispute that this is the absolute biggest problem in our nation. And Trump has sworn to begin taking up our cause and making tangible progress within the first 100 days.

Do you think one of the Democrats, who want to effectively add four more years to our education system (with public community college), would somehow help our cause?
