RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017
The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.
If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.
To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.
I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.
I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.
I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.
I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.
Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.
Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

What I've been up to
This spring my friend convinced me to join our school's rowing team. I did. And I love it. I gave up wrestling this winter for it. I tried it because I finally quit football and I needed something to do. Didn't think I'd love it this much. I almost already have a sub-7 2k and I'm trying to get my 6k times down.
Over the summer I won a race in a single in the Men's Novice 1x event. I'm still extremely proud of it. They snapped a picture of me receiving my watch.
This fall they also snapped an AWESOME picture of me during the stage of our race where we were putting on maximum power
Unfortunately the fall season didn't go as well as I hoped. Our team had a lot of internal conflict and I decided to move teams. I found Three Rivers Rowing Association. I'm currently training with them until the end of spring.
I'm set to be one of the top 8 guys.

I rank it as harder than wrestling. Mostly because once you start, you can't stop until you finish.

And it doesn't involve grappling a sweaty man...

What I've been up to
I hate absolutely hate wrestling. Eventually I quit for the benefit for myself, but I quit during the offseason.

Why did you consider quitting a benefit? Because you hated it so much? That's my reason for quitting football.

What I've been up to
It was a detriment, because alot of the people in wrestling are rather narcissistic, brash, sexist and just all around unpleasant people to be with, since they talked all the time about drugs mainly alcohol, promiscuous sex, talking shit about other people. but some of them were good people who I enjoyed around me. Having to run around and exercise for 2 hours when I already was exhausted from school certainly didn't help with my mental health. So I quit the wrestling team during the off season so I wouldn't be ostracized and looked as an inferior. Cause the wrestling team really just stigmatize on people who quit during the season. But I'm not gonna lie, after three years of having to deal with wrestling I was in really good shape during those 3 years of wrestling. Now, I've just let myself go and don't really concern with what I eat. I'm hikes and wilderness exercise to gain spiritual, intellectual, and to actually understand myself better. Also going to the beach is also fun and awesome way to get exercise you do alot of stuff and time fly by very quickly . I'm sure people here have similar experiences dealing with sports and dealing with social pressure.
