RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017
The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.
If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.
To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.
I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.
I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.
I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.
I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.
Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.
Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

I wonder if anyone here plays this game. It is my favorite FPS because in my opinion, it not only has the best gameplay but is the least realistic FPS I've ever played (not a fan of realism in FPSes.) I don't play online (I just started playing the campaign three days ago and I'm pretty sure it's 99% 20-year olds who played it 10 years ago on the servers.) This game deserves more love.
Also, I don't play any of the other UTs (UT04 takes up a lot of space, and I don't have much of that stuff left, and UT3/UT14 would probably blow my computer up.)

For anyone who remembers me going on an archive binge: Thank you all. I know I ended it being a drama queen, I don't really agree with the ideology anymore, and I'm really not the same person I was (I went through a neopagan phase!) but still this site was the first online community I was in. I graduated from school and turned 18. Time flies. KFC Nyan Cat, June 20, 2019.

Zandronum is the source port I play (the reason I prefer Doom 1 is due to better Single Player levels.)
When I was browsing Xonotic fourms, I did find out that it is playable on 1GB RAM (I have 3GB) and on my graphics card.

Quake live sucks though. Everyone's fucking rocket-spamming shitheads and the shotgun is a standard "cotton candy pellets at anything further than 10 feet" type of gun, they shoulda taken lessons from UT's flak cannon. They also need to turn off alltalktext so that dead players cant talk to living players because it encourages cheating. Plus the fucking stupid "humiliation" soundbyte that fucking plays if someone stabs you, that's fucking stupid. Its not humiliating to die just because someone melees another player to death. No modern game does that. Quake's a piece of shit that should've died a long time ago, vastly inferior to UT.

Never was a fan of Quake 2 (it was BORING,) and I couldn't even get Quake 1 to run properly (Windows 7 OR Windows 98.) So I'm guessing Quake is a series I should skip?

Listen to more opinions than just one m8!
I already have an opinion on the first two Quake games. and I think that I shouldn't waste my time with Quake 3 or Live.

I miss BF1942 Desert Combat... that was still the best Battlefield game ever. /nostalgia
Sometimes I think of starting up some kind of retro gaming server/community for all these old games that nobody plays anymore, but that are actually better than the newer ones.

If you do I'd actually help. Hell I wouldn't mind to start-up an abandonware site as well(something like Abandonia)...perhaps have it linked to SS as well...I dunno Just an idea
Pretty Much my only signature...I'm mainly a lurker....you can find me on the IRC (or on DnE and their IRC).

Nah, there are enough abandonware websites, and private servers from Battlefield 1942 to Halo 2 to Phantasy Star Online to Toontown Online are a dime a dozen.

I disagree. There are never enough sites. Besides not all sites have the same games, meaning that if we can have a few games that others don't we can gain traction. Plus how many of those are actually like Abandonia? Also IIRC Toontown Online doesn't have any private servers as no one has actually released any form of it after Disney Shut it down.

Meh, I guess you are right, it doesn't hurt to have another site that hosts abandonware (just don't host in the USA, especially if games that aren't actually abandonware are in the plans.)[/i]

Open Beta is not complete though. It's not even close to complete software wise. Beta means it is somewhat stable, but incomplete and there is still a good chance of game-breaking bugs. Although again that's only one project...so again not really a 'dime a dozen'

Right about it in that it's not dime-a-dozen (it used to be but all the others aren't out yet or shut down) but.......while TTR is CALLING it beta, it's only because they don't have all of the original content, game breaking bugs don't happen frequently (only a few times for me since mid-October)

And then it's not complete, again it's still not close to complete and game breaking bugs can still occur.
Also the people playing don't decide when something's no longer beta, those that are actively working on it do. The fact that you are calling it complete can be bit insulting as it insinuates that YOU know the software better than the creators(which I highly doubt).

I wasn't saying it wasn't beta, I was saying that they could say it's out of beta and nobody would be mad (I'm not the best at wording things, sorry.)
