RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

Thirst for adventure

I made the thread here because I felt it didn't really fit in any other category...

Sometimes, I spend some time wondering about what life really is. And what the hell living your life really means.
People know me as a quite calm, intelligent, solitary person. No one would really think about me being very outgoing/social or doing crazy things... Which means actualy LIVING, making the most out of this short life of ours.
Not caring about anyone. Anything.
Truth is, I do live a borng life, as they might think.
Don't get me wrong, I have a great family, I'm healthy, I have what to eat and a roof above my head... I might have only a couple of friends, but I mostly have everything I need.
And yet, I'm not happy. I'm just fucking bored. Bored to just live a simple life like anyone else. I'm gonna grow, I'm gonna chase my dreams, I'm gonna have a family, I'm gonna get old and I'm eventualy gonna die. Just like anybody else.
And this is where a big desire comes from within... A desire bigger than everything else. A trait of mine far from what everyone that knows me is used to.
That's why I sometimes simply wish life was like in a movie, a game, a book... Whatever... Wish I was werewolf in some sort of Sci-Fi movie... Wish I was a space soldier travelling towards unknown worlds... Wish I was an ancient warrior fighting on the battle field... No rules, no regrets. No bad, no good. My choice, it's consequences, my responsibility.
And THAT thirst for adventure is my desire.

Thirst for adventure

I often wonder what it would be like to be a heroic videogame character.

A part of me wants to beat up bad guys (with my fists, if possible), wander the world wearing a light armor of some sort, and embark on quests for noble causes.

I guess I'm content with taking walks in places that have already been discovered, fixing woodland shelters that have already been built, and slaying thin air with a broomstick that has already been broken.

I honestly wonder what School Survival would look like if it were a action gangster rap movie fantasy.

My fantasies are like WWF RAW crossed with Anime crossed with 2000s cartoons and everyone's a cat. Oh, and there are some ponies too. Oh, and there's Pokemon battles.

I'd be a philosophical barbarian, book in one hand and giant warhammer in other. Answer to every question is a warhammer to the face...including the question of life!

See, wouldn't life be much more interesting THAT way? Scratchchin
I just finished watching the second season of Vikings (TV series), and seeing all that viking stuff and shit made me almost jealous...

I wished Earth was some 10 times bigger than it is, with unknown lands, and we could simply explore and do shit.

Thirst for adventure

So just do more adventurous things. Start small if that seems scary... go explore some neighbourhood you've never been to before. Walk around outside in the dark alone. Anything that seems like fun, but is also slightly scary.

Put on camouflage clothing, wear boots, grab a strong bamboo stick and smear black grease on your face.

Summer's almost here, and me and my friends are willing to go swimming to a lake in the woods close to our town. People go swimming there every summer, actually. But there are some concrete... "things" from wich we can jump into the water. I guess we'll have quite some fun doing crazy stuff there.

F**k. My mom would never let me do that because she's a little f**king neat freak and so is my soccerbrother.

RE: Thirst for adventure

I can relate, I too am wholly unsatisfied with everyday life. I've spent the better part of this last decade trying to remedy my sickness. And while I have found that big adventures do make you feel alive, it's fleeting. Because life is waiting for a train you came 15 minutes too early for. I think that what really seems to fill isn't comfort, pleasure, or adrenaline. It's somewhere in savoring experience.

I made bread from scratch the other day, my knuckles deep in poorly thickened dough. Sticking to my fingers, I try and add flower, I kneed it into something resembling a ball, then a building. I think about the yeast-flower ratio and something google discovered about gluten development. It's elastic now, my blob of putty is a connection to the ages, sating hungry mouths and stories for millennium. It's no big deal, its just a recipe, some time. Something I haven't done before. Connect?

Some cupid kills with arrows, some with traps.
