RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

Overkill

So my final examinations begin in two weeks and I haven't bothered to do anything at all in terms of preparations. I feel I can accomplish revision of my earlier exams that I have before a one week holiday. Altogether, I have about 20 exams not including the one I have already completed (GCSE Art and Design). Before the holiday I have 12 of the 20 and I honestly think I can prepare for them all. The problem is that I have my own schedule I work with at home but homework comes in the way and if I don't bother with the homework, I get detention, which is a waste of valuable revision time. Today was the first day back from school after Easter holidays and already we've been bombarded with dozens of tests. I'm pretty sure I've failed my Mathematics because I hadn't revised. The reason I hadn't done so is because Maths is one of our exams that we have right towards the end, in fact it's during June. Does it not make sense to revise for the exams we have in 2 WEEKS rather than the ones we have in ANOTHER FREAKING MONTH?! Anyway, I tried explaining to the teacher that it's better for him to just let us revise during class rather than repeatedly giving us 2 hour mock exams (also, it seriously hurts my head) and the fucker didn't even reply to me!
I SERIOUSLY THOUGHT THAT AS A MATHS TEACHER HE'D HAVE SOME SORT OF LOGICAL THINKING TOWARDS THIS SITUATION!
I hate all these fucktards -.- We have approximately 6 hours of school and my revision at home also take about 6 hours but in addition towards all that work THEY'RE GIVING ME STUPIDASS HOMEWORKS! Like, "oooh, here are some words, make a nice poster with the definitions so I can display it on my fucking board to show the parents of potential victims that I give a fuck." THIS WAS AN ACTUAL HOMEWORK. I WANTED TO THROW A DICTIONARY AT HER FACE!
There's much more rage still in me that I fear to express because I have a feeling that if I do, 10 asylum doctors are going to be 'studying' me for the next 30 years.
ALSO, I have no idea if this post makes any sense at all.

RE: Overkill

I feel you. It's just some teachers don't want to understand. Actually I may be repeating the year next school year because of two bad grades but if god "look at me" maybe I'll pass :/

You have to repeat the entire school year? I always thought you repeat the subjects you've failed.

RE: Overkill

Yeah we repeat the year with the subjects that we failed which maybe I'll fail two of them 0.o and I will be losing an entire school year just because of two subjects...

Isn't there a way you can just repeat the subjects during your own time rather than of another academic year? Like summer school?

RE: Overkill

No :( the law is that if we fail two subjects like maths and portuguese together we fail and repeat the year or for example failing at the two exams we repeat the year ...and so on. In my case I have bad grades at portuguese and maths ... I am ashamed because portuguese was the subject that I had always good grade like the english but we have a teacher this year that dont give us a chance -.- so angry about that.. but maths is that thing cause I never have been very good at understanding the formulas

I'm not so good at Maths but I can achieve just about a passing grade, like a C. I guess you just have to do a lot of questions until it gets into your head. I recommend past papers. As for Portuguese, I can't help very much because I always sucked at Languages. I do French at the moment and I can't wait till I get over and done with it.

RE: Overkill

Yeah I always passed the years with C at maths ( its not how we call a grade of the subject ) but this year is more hard its like has nothing to do with the last year. Portuguese is not easy but i was more good at languages than anything else. I have no luck with this teacher. He make us doing a bunch of homeworks and work in groups which is what i hate the most!

Damn, that sucks! Is it absolutely necessary for you to do these subjects, can't you just skip it or something?
