RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The Malefic Chronicles (Choose Your Own Adventure)

You wake up in a small white room. In it is a mirror, the bed you were just in, a bottle of blue and white capsules with a note on it, and a note pinned to the door. As you get up from the bed, you catch a glimpse of yourself in the mirror. Your long whitish hair turns rainbow colored at the end. You take a deep breath to calm yourself. You can't afford to mess anything up today. Lives could depend on it, especially that of your father and his coworkers. You know your name, of course, but why don't you restate it, just to be sure of yourself?

(Inventory and stats will go here later.)

Warning: I may not always make sense. I may rant about random things. Don't say I didn't warn you.

You call yourself Spectra, and decide to read the notes. (Ooh, this is interesting.)

Your name is Spectra, of course. You knew your own name, you were just repeating it to keep yourself calm. Keeping calm seems to help you not mess up. You decide to read the notes. The one on the bottle of capsules says:
"Spectra,
This is your medicine for the day. It's really important that you take it all now, because you'll be really busy today. You're finally growing up. I'm so proud of you.
--Dad"
You feel even calmer now that you have your father's support. He's actually really fun to be around, when he's not busy with his work. No need to get hysterical here. Right. The note on the door reads:
"We're meeting your dad at the factory this morning. You finally get to see where he works! We'll be meeting your co-op there too because it's a field trip for the whole co-op, so remember to be on your best behavior. Meet me by the door when you're ready to go!
--Mom"

What will you do?

Don't take the pills. That's what they want you to do. Well, you're not going to play by their rules anymore.

Think to yourself: are you in an an anime? Or a manga? That's the only possible explanation for your hair. You search for a pair of scissors to cut them with, because it will be a liability in a combat situation.

You decide not to take the pills. Yo're old enough to take care of yourself, and you aren't about to give up your free will now that you've rediscovered it! You'll need to find a way to dispose of them, though... They'll force you to take them otherwise. At risk of breaking the Fourth Wall, you realize that you're in a Choose Your Own Adventure, and that your hair is weird. You look around for scissors, and don't find any. You even looked under your bed, and the sharpest thing you've found is a nail clipper, which was hidden inside your mattress.

What will you do?

You decide that cutting your hair without a proper instrument would be too suspicious, and decide to leave it as is.

Hmm...and, you crush the pills into a fine powder first using the blunt side, then the sharp part, of the nail clippers, and place both the powder and clippers back under the bed.

(OOC: Let me guess...the character has a mental disorder that, among other things, gives them the delusion that their actions are being controlled for the purpose of a story, and the pills were medication intended to suppress the symptoms?)
