RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

I am a freak

My life is going nowhere. I have almost no friends at all. My only friend is this one sophomore who uses memes all of the FUCKING TIME. He gets on my fucking nerves. I have not once had a girlfriend. I'm an ugly fag who is too much of a fucking geek to get any girls. Worst of all is that my mom died a couple years ago. Although she was an addict, she was the sweetest person you would meet. She was extremely caring. I can't take my life anymore. I've had suicidal thoughts for a while now. I don't know what to do anymore

I am 14, and have my own computer repair business! And I'm a small time DJ also. No joke.

If you need tech support, PM me. Everything's free of charge. I use Teamviewer in case it's needed.

RE: I am a freak

Oh my god. Yikes. I'm not sure what to say here. Really. Unfortunately, I really understand the lack of friends, and not only that, but also not having a girlfriend. I'm going to be honest, I'm not sure I'm giving the right advice, but I'll try my best, because I understand the kind of position you're in.

Generally, these kinds of things tend to cause irrational feelings about one's appearance. You need to remind yourself that often these feelings are irrational. In my experience at least, I've said to myself I'm extremely ugly and unworthy because of my loneliness, and that's what you're feeling too.

As for family death, I'm really, really, sorry. I can't imagine the toll it still has on your life. This was someone you were extremely close to and you loved so much, and was probably one of the few people you had left in your life.

The best advice I can give, and knowing where I've come from, is that you're going to have to slowly start getting better at communicating with people. For now, forget about getting a GF, forget about the first kiss, I want you to put that aside, and instead find someone you can be decent friends with. Perhaps with a classmate you should just start with a simple question or conversation.

One thing I suggest, if you are feeling this way, is to not make automatic assumptions about people, if you are doing so (though I have no idea). Such assumptions drive us away from people, and that causes a lot of problems. I know this, and I understand it can be difficult to show some humility. Remember that automatic assumptions can be very irrational. Basic observation can only give us so much.

The friends part, nothing I can say.

As for the girlfriend......Middle School Dating is useless, and so is High School Dating. Don't stress it.

As for your mom, I'm so sorry....

I am a freak

Listen, as someone who has been in several relationships, they are kinda over-rated, at least right now. It's just setting yourself up to get hurt in the end. And as for loosing someone close I'm very sorry -hugs- <('.')>

Also as for finding other friends, try and hang out with people you find nice, or that a friend hangs out with. Sometimes all you need to do is listen. At least that's what works for me.

Pretty Much my only signature...I'm mainly a lurker....you can find me on the IRC (or on DnE and their IRC).

RE: I am a freak

Yeah, we just recorded a hangout with some of our stories and suggestions.

(We've been doing quite a few hangouts lately, but this is the first one we've done as a specific response to a post.)

Anyway... there are ways to find a path out of where you're at now... to connect with people, to discover (and recover) interests and passions, and to find your way to a life worth living in general. Those are all things that often require looking beyond school and even family.

So, that's part of what many of us are looking to help out with.

Here's the video. Smile

I am a freak

Wait till you see me...

Like all is said, or has been said. MS-HS relationships? Mostly waste of time(not always, but mostly)
If you can't take your life anymore because of all the things happening, I'm think your anchor is not yourself. Why you tying yourself to societal norms of happiness and "life-takeability"? If you're going to decide whether you can or can't take this life, then you should remember YOU are the one DECIDING. Thus stop deciding negatively because you think you have to be like those who think they should suffer from suffering of the natural order of existence.

You are still young, what is your meager years(while simple revolutions around the sun, the issue of time perception is quite important to mankind, though it is up to the individual to choose whether to be a slave to it, or master) compared to others in society? How can you mathematically equate the negatives of your life at the moment with other equations that you don't share the factors and variables of?

Want to whine and mope about your life? Do it sometime before you're nearly dead. Perhaps when you're in your death bed. Perhaps while bleeding from a gunshot wound. Maybe while an alien spacecraft is beaming you on-board(result of death is not guaranteed).

I'm not telling you to brighten your view of, but dimming the light and complaining about how dark it is, is quite stupid. Life has 1 saturation(but multiple hues). Not black or white. Not light or dark. Once you see it for what it is, not for what you make it out to be, you will feel the foundation of calm to build upon.

Humans and their foolish humanocentric beliefs. As if the very laws of nature revolve around us...pah!

RE: I am a freak

Okay. I'm going to tell you one thing. If you think that you're an "ugly fag," that mindset will seep into your demeanor, and the aura of that will cause others to think the same thing. But here's the thing; You aren't one. You are an incredible person, but you need to know that before anyone else will know as well. So, you need to change that mindset. The friends and the relationships will follow if you have that.Try some conditioning techniques. I'm not saying that process is easy, but having a better self image is very possible and worth it in the end.

Also, I am extremely sorry for your loss. My friend's dad died when we were in fourth grade, and how they held up after it makes me incredibly proud of them.

I'm not going to give you the spill on "life is great" and "you have so much to live for" blah blah blah because it's either bs or not what you're asking for. All you really need to do is look up poor kids in Africa or something. That makes me feel better because I'm NOT them. Starving, broke, un educated, etc. I'm sure you have a lot of friends online anyway and people actually meet each other too. And a computer repair business? Psh nice man. Real nice. If that doesn't get the ladies then they're just to self absorbed. Or dumb asses.

You're a good guy Smile You know it. I know it. Well not really, but you can't be evil if you're on here.

RE: I am a freak

Well, it looks like you've got friends in SS Smile. Not too many high school friendships last; it's more of a period of experimentation where you can meet new people who may or may not go on to make a big impact in your life. As the video suggested, it would help to distract yourself from your everyday events once in a while by doing community work, being productive on things you want to do, or just picking up new hobbies. Sometimes, these things can bring something to believe in yourself. I wouldn't worry too much about social situations if you feel you have to work things out for yourself. I am sorry to hear about your mom...
