RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The people who did this were genius Biggrin
And encouraged me to join those sites hehe

By the way
Quote:Although Beaudoin said she didn't want library patrons to think the library supported the messages on the bookmarks, she wouldn't have denied a request to post a poster or literature on a public board or display.
Would this mean if they asked to put on a poster on this issue, they would be allowed to do so?

HA HA, we're not alone after all! Damn this is inspiring!

Exactly what I thought when I read it.

What would be cool is if SS does this as well and it becomes a thing that all anti-school groups do.

#1.) Yes, the library said they would of allowed a flyer or poster to be posted.

#2.) I think they could of arranged some sort of meeting with the news or something. The library was trying to contact them, and talk to a representative from their group. They could of gotten more media coverage, perhaps a follow up story for the stunt, thus bringing more people over to our side.

We could definitely do this. I think it was probably just a few people who did it per library which brought a lot of attention. The only problem would be distributing the same little flyer/bookmark to everyone to use so it is linked together.

Well, we should try to do it regardless of the consequence. Do anyone have any suggestion to override the problem? It shouldn't only be about the anti-school part, but also about youth rights part. How do we start though?

ZZZ...

Re: Thousands of Anti-School bookmarks found in books.

Someone needs to design a bookmark, and find a way to distribute it.

It could be printable, or maybe we can find a site that will let us sell them in bulk.

Edit: Maybe something like this, although I kind of suck at creating this sort of thing:

If only we had more people! This is our problem.

If we started to do this in quite a few libraries it could start to get media coverage, and when they find out its been happening in different areas and libraries it may grow bigger and bigger, spreading the message, influencing and opening peoples minds. Maybe.

I'm all for this, maybe we could get some person to professionally print leaflets/flyers and what not, contribute to the cost. We could even start mailing leaflets out to other who would spread them around. We could put these not just in books, but places in general, target the youth. In fact, I have several anti-school friends in school who would be more than happy to help. Just an idea.

And yes this is inspiring! See how the media reacts to peaceful methods? It wasn't actually negative. I didn't even know another forum/group of people existed, it would only help our cause if we were to chat about methods and such.

EDIT: Negativity towards the freedomain radio:

Agreed, which is exactly why we need to be very careful about "public relations" and "media relations." Unless the news source reporting on any of our activities is completely and utterly biased towards the other side, they will probably give us an interview, in which case, if conducted properly, we can ensure a fair verdict is given in the published article.

Getting ahold of some professional looking, and distributable bookmarks should probably be the main priority for now though.

Even if they are highly biased, odds are they'll still conduct an interview. Faux News, anyone? Rolleyes
