RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

My school loses all of my stuff, pretty major problem.

So, I'd like to tell you all about a pretty crazy, important thing my school did to me.

First of all, I'm in credit recovery due to the fact I'm basically dead inside and barely able to function in school. So, the previous year I had already made up a class I needed, which I then moved on to my other classes I needed... So, now I'm a senior just trying to stagger my way through the rest of the year and escape from the absolute hell that I am. I am now in the process of making up other classes I have failed, wich leaves me with a total of 60 hours after school staring into a fucking computer doing monotonous, mind destroying, useless tasks... So almost 20 hours in to this session I'm pulled out of one of my regular classrooms by one of my teachers (who happens to be absolute scum of this fucking earth) for her to tell me that I have not turned in my registration forum... This would make the THIRD fucking time I turned it in, one being directly into the hands of the vice principle. But, apparently they really are just as incompetent as the claim me to be, having failed to manage what they need to do for me to graduate and make up my credits. It's a big deal for them to mess this up, really... But basically they acted like I shouldn't come that day because I didn't my forum turned in despite making that my third time, and I am straight up disrespected saying that I need to face reality and you know, the average bullshit put downs. So, they make my mother come down again to sign this, so finally I make it into credit recovery.

Then they try to fuck me harder... I'm called to the front desk in the classroom to be toled that they couldn't find the paperwork to where I had completed my credit recovery assignments last year. So, I basically begin to lose my mind, and tell them that I did complete this, and I can't possibly be convicted fucking otherwise. I knew I had done it, there's no way I was going to let them tell me I didn't put in my time, my fucking time that I deserve to have robbed for me to sit in hell for 2 extra hours. So, she continues to say that there's no way I did it and just straight up lies to me saying that she checked online and I knew she was not capable of doing so, way too fucking stupid for that. So, I told her that basically if she doesn't find my paperwork that there will be some major problems, I was willing to do whatever to make them fucking pay for losing it... But, she decides to go look and finally she says she found sign in sheets of where I had came in, and she would work it out.

I just wanted to share the bullshit that this is, had I not have pressured her into actually looking, I honestly wouldn't have been able to graduate. Because my school is incompetent, and if this was turned around on me and I was the one who had made the mistakes for something in school? You all know how that would go, I would be scolded and put down like a fucking child, no, what am I kidding... That's to generous, I am slime there, I am the fucking dirt.

Wow, that's horrible. :(

What kind of paperwork is this? They don't have computer-based records?

Also, what are your plans for when you're free of all that?

RE: My school loses all of my stuff, pretty major problem.

The paperwork contains my English credits, so it was a pretty big deal.

The forums I was talking about though, were just saying that I was basically allowed to stay after school to recover my credits.

I have plans to work, dispatching EMS, and then follow my dreams and be happy, to see how it all works out.

EMS work can be tiring and stressful at times, just so you know. Dispatching is likely less dangerous than ambulance riding, though.

But, I have a very nihilistic view of life. I don't necessarily 100% take that in a bad way, but I can't deny it does weigh on me sometimes. But, basically I want to play music, that's all I want. Just need to have support for that dream, as your mostly paying to tour and have that dream.
