RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

Dropping in to say...

TAKE THAT HIGH SCHOOL! The students at our school won a small victory in the uniform fight today. We no longer have to tuck our shirts in. See, I figured this would happen. (I just didn't think it would be this soon. )

No one tucking their shirts in = a lot of detentions, suspensions, and In School Suspensions = A lower overall school grade = our current graduation rate of 41% = The state stepping in and swinging the banhammer around the school staff like motherfucking Thor.

In other words, to stop the mass firing, they're desperately crawling about, trying everything to keep their jobs. And, they've finally sunken so low to actually negotiate with us lowly children.

Now, I won't go as far as to say they wouldn't have done it without me, but dammit, I helped. I had to be the biggest pain in their asses as far as uniforms went. Sure, there were people who got in trouble more often than me, but they never seem to go as far as to bring up actual evidence that uniforms can possibly hinder progress in their so called "learning environment". Which is why I think I might have even been a semi contributing factor in this. I can really use their desperation to my advantage, in any case. They're swallowing their oh so important pride. For the first time in a LONG time, I have a bit of hope. We actually can change things. A little piece at a time, but it's still change.

The "No jackets with hoods" rule will be the next thing to go. Mwahaha (Another thing I bitch about constantly, how can we "learn" if we're freezing our asses off? You honestly can't find jackets without hoods around here anymore.)

Oh, and I'm still going to be away, it'll probably be on and off for awhile. I'll be back once every week or so to check in on everything.

Sounds like a notable win for your school. Keep up the good work. Oh, and a suggestion: Try checking in here once a week, or at least when something interesting's happened.

Re: Dropping in to say...

For "repeated offenses" It's usually just ISS. (which is fun as hell anyway. I can go on the computer and go on cracked all day)

But let it be known, bitching and moaning DOES get you somewhere.
Also, we have that "no public displays of affection" rule. So, since my friend and I were making fun of the assembly the entire time, I was like "LET IT BE KNOWN CHILDREN! LOVE IS BAD!"

STOP RIGHT THERE CRIMINAL SCUM

NOBODY UNTUCKS THEIR SHIRT ON MY WATCH

Back in Year 7 we had to tuck our shirts in when we went to Science. In fact, they were quite Nazilike about it.

That rule has always confused the living hell out of me. They have a total ban on violence, If you fight the cops take you away in cuffs but they don't want you to show AFFECTION You cant kiss somebody or hug each other. I pointed that out to an AP one time after she bitched at me for hugging one of my friends she had nothing to say back. Laugh

Re: Dropping in to say...

Laugh Then in the assembly of course, the chick was like "We have spirit wear polos, very cool." And We were like "OH SO FASHIONABLE!" And later she mentioned the polos a few minutes later and I'm like "Those sexy, sexy polos." In the most srs voice ever. Me and my friend were cracking the fuck up. We need to have assemblies every day.
