To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

I choose the Irish flag because Irish warriors are depicted as some pretty brave fuckers. They may not be as brave as certain other countries, but they are still pretty damn brave.

I'd use my own flag, a mix of SS's logo, the dove and grenade, and a slice of pie.

The way I see it, not really. Change is more complex then a traditional "revolution" against a traditional Big Bad.

The villain, in this case, is arguably what Justin Schwamm calls the "factory mindset" -- a whole system of ways of doing things, beliefs, institutional constraints, and norms that schools-as-many-know them tend to be full of.

Justin has delved into the factory mindset from many angles in his various blog posts, and reading many of them has helped me understand a different set of lenses through which to look at at the convoluted mess of 19th-20th-century schools in a 21st-century world.

Something to think about, and discuss, when it comes to thinking about how to bring about change...

Thoughts? Maybe a topic for a hangout, or a scheduled, facilitated chat?

Okay, seriously, let's see...hammer and sickle, rebellion against school. TheLiberal, I think I speak for the majority of us when I say the problem is bigger then your school or your principal, and a rebellion, if it even got off the ground, wouldn't be the best way to go about changing things. The authorities would just crack down, and anything and anyone involved can kiss goodbye to being taken seriously for a long time. I can't blame you for wanting a rebellion, because judging from our history many users here have. And I can't blame them either.

xcriteria is right when he speaks about the system as a whole. I would suggest finding a way to speak out about that, and joining the movement that's already happening. Surely there are examples of the top-heavy bureaucracy in your school that you can relate to!
