Is it just me, or does school feel like 1984?

When a teacher limits free speech illegally or refers to speech as inappropriate, or violates rights at all, I think this:

Does school feel like 1984? Yes, it does.

They definatly have students on constant watch (with cameras in the hallways, some classrooms, and even bathrooms).

The school staff always tell you what to do, and if you don't follow their instructions, you'll get punished in some shape or form.

And yes, I do think they limit our free speech.

Yeah, school does mirror the thought police. Not totally, but definitely somewhat.

My current school kills creativity, but my old one had all the camera's and the spy tech you are referring too. Locked doors from the outside to "protect us" instead of, you know, interviewing those wanting inside??!

The FBI would probably send you to Guantanamo Bay if you were caught putting these up around school. If you asked the principals, they'd say it was gross vandlism, and that only the lowest species on the food chain would do something so despicable. It'd be akin to one form of thought on when Luke blew up the first Death Star and killed millions of people, an act of terrorism.

2+2=5 was used in Stalin's USSR to describe how the Five Year Plan was going to be finished early, due to the labor of the workers. 2=2+5 was used in Orwell's 1984 to describe how the Party could, if they saw fit, alter publicly conceived fact to match their agenda (in this case, most likely to glorify their own Five Year Plan).

2+2=5 was used in my last school's agenda book to illustrate how teamwork could provide better benefit than working alone. That's true enough, but did they really have to drive home how goddamn sanctimonious they were? Did the person who wrote that even read know about the book? I saw 1984 was being read in another class that I briefly walked in on one day, so it's not like they were all totally ignorant. Just ignorant enough not to draw conclusions. I'd bet money there were at least a couple students who did draw conclusions, but not openly.
