RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

I got a zero on my mid-term project.

Yep, I got a zero on my mid-term project for my literature project. And, I also have a zero for one of my Spanish tests, because I was sick on the day that it took place. I was also sick when the mid-term project was due.

And, to be honest, I didn't really care. I was tired of doing stupid make-up work that I had no energy to complete.

My Mom was pretty mad when she found out that I had a zero on my mid-term and that I still haven't taken that damn Spanish test. She told me that I had to turn in the project and take my Spanish test. The only problem here is that both of these things were due during the last nine weeks, so I might not even earn credit for completing them.

Also, my grade in Literature class also decreased over 20 points from about a 93 or 94 down to a 71. My grade in Spanish only went down about 7 points, down to an 87. Even though my grade in Spanish is still a B, my Mother said that I should still take it, with anger in her tone of voice.

Oh yeah, and the people in the literature class voted to make this particular project the mid-term while I was absent. I was never told about it. Great.

I still don't care and I still think these assignments are a waste of my time. I'm getting tired of my damn school too, but I'll post more about my lovely school experiences in another thread.

Ouch. That stings. Worse when you have parents that don't understand.

Yeah, it does sting.

My Mom is mad about it, but I don't know how my Dad thinks about it. I should be working on that silly project now, but I don't have to energy to do so. But, my Mom would understand that, and I'm afraid to tell tell her this, because I don't know what she'll do. I don't know if she would have sympathy for me, or if she would force me to do the project.

I guess it's kind of a "what if" situation and I'm afraid of her possible reactions.

RE: I got a zero on my mid-term project.

I'm losing faith in the fact that there are good parents. The idea of school is a conspiracy, we were basically born to be useful for our parents and the government. After being a good boy/girl, our parents decide they love us, but if we fail to ''do what we are supposed to do'' they make us feel like terrible people. Being beaten or mistreated for not doing petty material crap runs in the family.

Oh no, she wouldn't beat me. I'm just afraid that my parents might take away my laptop again.

Yeah, I'm also tired for doing this petty crap. I've been called a slacker many times at school for not doing my bullshit work sometimes.

Eh, I think thinking of school as a conspiracy is a bit far-fetched. In reality, the entire education system goes far back to the late 1800s, when there was awareness of a need for a public education system, and industrial corporations at the time got their hands on it and made it mirror factory work.

The whole "decide to love us" is basically one of the many toxic after-effects of the entire factory model (grades, behavior, etc). It's just a broken model that needs to be desperately fixed.

I'm glad she does not beat you, and refusing to do work doesn't make you lazy. Unhappy children don't perform that well. My grandmother even stated that ''low self esteem is no excuse.''

RE: I got a zero on my mid-term project.

Hopefully, school will get a lot better in the future, I say more field trips. My sister is doing math with my grandma and I'm worried that she'll come out in tears again.

I got a zero on my mid-term project.

@Cianna200: Actually, my Mom and several past teachers of mine think that I'm a perfectionist. And I've read that perfectionism can lead to procrastination, which is a major problem of mine.

And, ironically, a field trip (well, it was a Beta Club trip) was one of the reasons why I didn't feel like doing my project. I guess you could say that this is procrastination at it's finest.

What do you mean by that? Does your grandma get angry easily?

I used to be a perfectionist in 10th grade. Such mentality can lead to low grades.

Oh never knew about that kind of stuff. I'm no perfectionist. My grandmother has anger issues and living with her can be difficult, she sometimes makes me wish I were dead.
