RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

My mom once told me that she wants to go back to school!!!! Omg Jawdrop
She also says that I take school for granted and that their are kids in other countries to go to school. She says school is a privilege. She almost treats school like a religon and threatens to take things away whenever my grades drop. She also wants me to go to college.

My english teacher says college was the best times of her life. Is that true?

Depends.

Not entirely sure how college can be best time of your life if you're buried under textbooks(especially true for engineering, science and math majors...and others I guess depending)

It's a typical human behavior to forget the bad of the past and exaggerate the good.

RE: krazy mom

I'm not sure about the English teacher but the sad thing is that people who enjoy school are the main ones being tricked by the government. The majority of kids dislike school and I'm all for it. School is no walk in the park, it's no Summerland, it's not even real learning. My questions are these if school prepares you for the real world, why do the majority of the things we are taught do no good for us in our adult lives? Shouldn't we be taught how to be decent citizens bent on making the world a nicer place for many generations? The answer i get is ''well, that's life.'' Once again I feel terrible for those who are tricked by the delusion that school helps us to survive in a bitter judge mental world. School prepares you to be a warrior and a servant to those who hold power over you.

Nope, because from what I see, the survivors aren't generally the fittest.

Survive mainly means to ''keep one self going.'' Though I view school as teaching you that you have no say in life and that your life has little meaning

Someone who is able to deal with the shit thrown at him/her.

Disagree. A survivor is someone who doesn't have shit being thrown at them.

If someone is throwing shit at you...they must be crushed.

Unfortunately crazy guy it is really hard to change a humans mind. U can change their way of thinking but not their mind. You know it may be good if she went back to school so she can see what kind of hell it is, she might even listen to you and begin to understand you a lot better

I might be able to convince my dad though Biggergrin

Also my mom said she got straight A's easily and that I'm lazy for not finding school easy like she did. Confused Was school easier in the 1970's-1980's?

What do you guys think about "common core". common core has students do a bunch of worksheets with analizing quetions and complicated quetions on test. School is starting to become more than memorizing.

Your parents just have that typical "no school, no life" mindset, maybe they don't understand b/c school really WAS easier back when, maybe they just never bothered to think of the seemingly extreme alternatives to schooling.
And yes, college can be "fun," but fun is subjective; still trying to figure out ways to stay happy and content while doing collehe
