RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

I don't think there's much reason to suspect that Ivo would troll us about this, or much reason for him to do it in the first place. Even if the problem isn't quite as bad as he described it, there's still cause for concern here. I've said all that I feel I can say, though; it's up to Ivo to take action now.

I can assure you, I'm not trolling you. This has been a persistent issue for over 5 months now. And if you doubt me, ask xcriteria.

I love how dumb stuff = mo' monies.

Not that all Let's Plays are dumb, but the dumbass actors tend to get more attention. I find it shows the age and maturity of the user-base.

Yeah, Ivo is most certainly not trolling.

A certain level of trust, I feel, is necessary for good communities to be able to help its own. Crossing my fingers we can start solving this before his brother's health starts to slip.

And, yes, PewDiePie is horrible. I saw an image post on tumblr a while back that sums it up nicely, but I CAN'T FRIGGIN' FIND IT right now. Hopefully I can soon.

EDIT: Found it!!! This is a pretty damn good post, and I've seen some doozies in my day. Here's a small sampler:

It's no secret to us that an environment like that can cause or aggravate mental problems within people...but these problems do not go away upon leaving. It gives men and women from all walks of life different diseases of the mind, and I believe the one in question here may be some form of compulsion.

Tearing him away from Let's Plays cold turkey won't do him any good. Neither will making him feel bad about it. He can only get help if he requests it, and right now he is in no position to.

OP I'm in the same position as your brother. Except I don't watch LPs. I don't really like them and I prefer machinimas to them.

My daily routine is that I wake up, go on my laptop, play video games online, troll/engage in certain forums, eat, continue with my online routine, bathroom, continue with my online routine, sleep. Back to doing the same thing everyday. I shower, eat healthy, brush my teeth, etc., but that's all I do.

Maybe your brother wants to become a professional LP'er/gameplay-commentator? As for me, I'd like to be a professional gamer, but that's not all. I'd like to be a professional cosplayer, voice actor, animator, and machinimist. I'd like to have these hobbies combined into a hobby-career, and produce content regularly for others who share the same interests to enjoy. Smile

Oh, and as for the OP trolling, usually the ones who claim that another person is trolling are the ones really trolling. Rolleyes

In general I think a lot of people are in these situations because they're not aware of the opportunities they could pursue, or they're not sure who to talk to.

At this point it's go to school - come home use the computer - repeat. I'm trying to break that and I have a feeling I'll be able to break that soon (I feel I'm on the verge of something big shall I say).

I'm really stuck in a situation where I have no one to talk to face-to-face because I just don't really know anyone anymore to be honest. After school I just decided to become a hermit and really only go out when it's convenient for me.

As for opportunity, I live in a "city", but it's nothing with huge buildings, superb transportation, and tons of people walking the streets everyday. It's basically just a big suburban area near the beach, with major businesses in certain locales.

You have to drive if you want to live here contently. You can take the bus, but it's every hour on the hour and the bus can sometimes breakdown so the waiting for the next bus can be even longer. Walking isn't even an option unless you live near a locale.

To make things worse most if not all these business require you to be 18 years old. It's fucking ridiculous. Brickwall
