A threat my math teacher made at the class today

So when I was in pre-algebra today, one of the many apes in my class decided to make a high-frequency sound with this toy or something throughout the entire period, which eventually got the teacher EXTREMELY pissed as you might imagine. She demanded that the noise stop or she would keep everyone from going to lunch and have the school principals, the school dean, and the school police officer all come into the classroom and search everyone and their bookbags for the thing making the noise.

I thought this was beyond stupid and unfair because she obviously knows it isn't the quiet, introverted, outcast me, the Korean or Chinese kid or any of the other few good students in class. Why not just hold the bad kids who never do their work or anything after class, or y'know, THE KID CLOSEST TO THE PLACE WHERE THE NOISE IS PRECISELY COMING FROM, IN THE BACK OF THE GODDAMN ROOM WHERE ALL THE POORLY BEHAVED KIDS ARE?

I don't think they're allowed to profile.

Actually, 2 weeks ago a girl in my geometry class (filled with bad eggs by the way) reported her phone was missing and they searched the entire class that period. They didn't find the phone, but caught 2 kids with bags of weed.

Agreed. It's messed up to punish the whole class, but she probably doesn't know what else to do. It's gotta be frustrating.

Maybe talk to her, and express empathy for her predicament, but explain that it makes you uncomfortable to be blamed for something you're not responsible for?

That said, the more I read these accounts of "apes" and misbehaved kids, and "trainwreck" classes that drive teachers mad, I wonder... is there something that can be done to provide a supportive learning environment that these rebellious students might respect and enjoy... and learn a a few things from?

Some on School Survival come here with that kind of "disrupt the class" thinking, as well. It's understandable, if you see school as a monolithic enemy, or just from the perspective of relative "immaturity" (loaded word, I know.) But, it's also a problem, from another perspective... and a number of people do change over time.

Thoughts on all that?

She should just hazard a guess in a situation like that. Pick one kid who's always disruptive anyway, write him up for it in front of the class and if it keeps up just pick another and do the same. All she has to do is say she saw him him do it. It's not like it really has to be true.

Yeah, that's true.

None of this would happen if kids weren't forced together, or if it were with the factory model.
