Amnesia: Dark Descent

It looks fricken epic. It's been awhile since I've seen an actual horror game. (No way could I play this one though)

Yeah, that's a cool game.

Scariest one I've played yet. It's hard to find a good horror game; most of the games that say they are scary are really not. Just jack-in-the-box kind of stuff, you know? But Amnesia is very much not that way.

The developers of that game had a previous series called Penumbra which was pretty scary too.

Yep and I also played penumbra(everyone of them) and I have the ost special edition(music is just that good.

Amnesia was a bit of a disappointment to me in that it broke one of the famed rules of horror.

Not only does it show us the target of the horror stalking us through script which kills any sense of foreboding scary threat( we always know when monsters are after us and never get the chance to feel like something sinister may be watching us without our knowledge) but the story also kind of sucked and was a bit cliched and all the horror comes from crappy little screamer scripts(they get old fast).


I know you chances are haven't heard of it but have you heard of hell night for psx(dark messiah) in europe.

It was made by a company called atlus and gets pretty difficult as a monster hunts after you like a predator and the game is in first person to make it much more scary.

There are no hp bars and if the monster catches you then its game over(atlus is known for some of their games being difficult) and this monster is smart and adapts and evolves as the game progresses(by the end of the game he talks to you).
As he evolves he hides behind corners and ambushes you and besides a partners ability all you can tell it is there is by its heavy breathing.

Lucky you get partners and have the potential to switch partners if some die with you later on(the monster catches you while you have a partner they die in your place sort of like a shield) and your partners have special abilities.

Like your first partner has a psychic ability that allows her to pin point the monsters location on your map and it gets useful as the monster gets smarter and the next one is a serial killer on the run from the cops(he doesn't kill you because he finds you aren't his kind of prey).

You know, the great part of being a neurotic mess that can't handle horror is that if they even try and shoot for horror, it's going to scare me shitless.

So, there's no way I could play these games without a huge group. I just can't. I'd end up freezing up and closing my eyes to wait to die... damn I'm such a pussy.
