RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

Holy shit, those must have been some terrible dreams.

I agree with you about dreams about school. They're the absolute worst. They're always a re-occuring theme during your break, and you kinda wish they'd just go away.

Shut up and stop being wrong about yourself. School is just getting into your head and making you feel bad about yourself because they have a way of doing that. I don't completely get it myself, yet I know it exists. EVERYONE deserves happiness (except those who take happiness.) School is just a roadblock to that.

(Sorry if the 1st sentence is insensitive, but I don't really understand this kind of thing that well.)

For anyone who remembers me going on an archive binge: Thank you all. I know I ended it being a drama queen, I don't really agree with the ideology anymore, and I'm really not the same person I was (I went through a neopagan phase!) but still this site was the first online community I was in. I graduated from school and turned 18. Time flies. KFC Nyan Cat, June 20, 2019.

RE: Status of my emotion during winter break

You seem very, very, angry. I can understand that, because I am in school, just like you are in school. I hate the standardized testing, I hate the feeling that I am wasting a lot of time, I hate it. I can see where you're coming from.

I used to have that same anger as well, like the self-shame because of some stupid number on a piece of paper, and seeing my school make us go to stupid assemblies and force us to "honor" those with better grades.... but I've actually found a way to coast through school.

First off, it's important to become apathetic about school. You need to stop caring about it so much. It's really hard to do at first because you have to go there every day, but you need to find a hobby. Eventually, you'll focus more on that hobby than on school. Second, here's something I suggest, and it's an easy way to deal with homework. When you're using your computer, put your homework right next to you. When you're done with your session, you'll see your homework. You might not have anything else to do, so you might say, "might as well do my homework!". It helps get rid of that awful procrastination.

I'd also suggest writing a personal journal, and perhaps satirizing the day as well. It's always good to make a joke out of a serious situation.

You feel best when you are forgotten and neglected?

That's not a curse. That's a gift. Abuse the heck out of it.

I never said that it was a curse (I think), I just think... nothing, I think absolutely nothing of it, it is just a weird trait of mine, and I take it realistically.
Now that you mention that... alrighty then.

I'm serious that you can treat that as a strength, though. Theoretically this trait would make you one of the lowest-maintenance people on the planet, and would give you a great deal of self-sufficiency. This is personal independence I can only dream of.
