RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

There are also various social services provided to those with financial difficulties.

Thus a person with a "shitty job" earning minimum wage can live a somewhat comfortable life if they handle their finances properly, avoiding splurging, avoid excessive usage of credit, and spend time shopping around for discounts.

You have fun with that life pal.

As a general honest question, why are you here in the first place, anyway? And what kind of group/clique were you part of while in high school?

Oh, and don't call me an idiot for using "and" at the beginning of a sentence.

RE: Smh...

Oh, what a great Christmas present. Let me get my hands dirty.

You represent one of my greatest fears. I think you've forgotton about school, Stephen. You've forgotton how much busywork you had to do. You've forgotton how you worried about what your classmates thought of you. You've forgotton how your life revolved around something you hated. Perception can change over time, so go back to 7th grade. Relive it, and then talk.

They're are so many appeals to society here. I don't want a well paying job. I want to be happy. I want to make others happy. I don't want to spend hours in a cubicle, looking at a monitor, glancing at the clock again and again, day after day. I want to help people. And I know how I want to help people.

Childhood is some of the most impressionable years of our lives. And we spend those years in school, looking at chalkboards and clocks. Fearing our teachers and peers. In school, you are nothing. You don't have any choices to be made, because they're made for you by everyone else. It's a mental prision.

And by high school, that's reality. They accept it. And that's wrong.

I'm not looking forward to working to survive rather than to avoid punishment. I look forward to finally being able to make a difference. I'm gonna be a teacher, and I'm gonna be the best fucking teacher I can be. I want to be the one that sweetens the deal, the one kids would want to be taught by. In my class, their will be no prison.

Do you always change the subject when you're wrong?

I'm not discussing my life, you pathetic worm. I'm discussing a topic. A topic you brought up and made an incorrect statement on. Yet all you can rely on is subject changes, rhetorical fallacies and ad hominem. By god, you must be one hell of a grown-up college student. Lacking intelligence? Check. Lacking civility? Check. Lacking maturity? Check.

Still you speak? Of course, the pathological fool doesn't shut up when he's wrong. It gets worse the more their proven wrong. You call us morons, but perhaps you're seeing a reflection of yourself on the computer monitor?

If you actually expect us to take you seriously, you might as well respond to the subjects mentioned. Then again, a narcissist like you takes everything personally. School obviously didn't help there.

Do you know what logic is kiddy? Would you like mommy and daddy to read you a story book? Would you like us to keep the night light on for you after we tuck you in?

This is the big boys table. Come back when you know what logic is.

Clique? I wouldn't say I was with the most popular kids, but right below that area. I was friends with some of them.

I'd hate to make an assumption about all "popular kids" (like you're assuming things about us), but that's not surprising. Generally, those that are at the top are less likely to question the system, because they're feeding off it.

Sorry about changing the subject, I try not to. I have a lot of people to respond to on here! Anyways, how is my intelligence low? Is it because I don't agree with you? And I don't see how I've been proven wrong of anything.

Your post rather tells me that it will happen to me. Remember, stephen, it's best not to ask assumptions (even if you're not completely assuming, that's also showing doubt in character), because that de-rails the whole debate in the first place.

That's not a 100% guarantee. No one can tell the future. Nobody can know the full potential of another. Thus there is no absolute. If there is no absolute, then it can't be a complete assumption. Just because it happens to others, it doesn't mean it will happen to you(in most complex cases. Getting decapitated is 100% of death, but it's a simple event).

I feel like now is a good time to introduce Stephen to my father.

Meet my father. Male, mid forties. Long hair, greying. Beer belly. Alcoholic.
Finished highschool. Graduated mind you. In fact, he even graduated early. Well he'd had a pretty good job right? I mean, according to your logic. it's not like he's been sitting on his ass for 40 something years getting occasional odd jobs, mooching off my mother, drinking his life away.... Oh.. he is? Yikes.. Guess school doesn't equal good job, good life.

Now you may say "oh well did he go to college" no.

But my mom did. And yes, she does have a job! She's what's called a "medical lab technician." Have you ever had to pee in a cup? Or get your blood drawn? Well, she's the person who does all the fancy shmancy shit that figures out how to tell if you're fucked up. Surely she must be paid well!

This whole thread was a great laugh. Finally, some fresh pro-school meat, and one who wasn't very good at arguing, shall I say. Heh, brings back the nostalgia of seeing a thread like this, like mrtuesday, Asder Miller, and Venjamin (and also that user with Indic writing). All did the same thing.

Browsing an anti-school forum. When you're so clearly pro-school. Wow. And you're saying we're gonna be no-life poor-ass dumb fucks. Do the world a favour and kill yourself. Yes, I'm that guy on these forums.

Just fuck. This guy is... ugh. WHY COME TO A FORUM WHOSE THOUGHTS YOU HATE. You really thought you had a chance of convincing us that we're wrong?

This post was brought to you by your generic pissed-off suicidal socially anxious annoyed rebellious teenager, otherwise known as Gwedin.

Why don't you tell that to my cousin? She manages a McDonalds restaurant, and is still a nervous wreck. But anyways, that doesn't have much to do with McDonalds, and I should really get to what I was going to do.

Hello Stephen, I'm Ivo (not my real name, if you couldn't tell already). I'll be 15 years old on New Years Eve, and I have a long talk to do with you, so settle in.

I suppose you're going to question me on this, so let's just get this out of the way. No, I'm not in public school, yes, I plan on making something of my life, and yes, I plan on getting my GED (or equivalent certificate).

Almost two years ago, in February of 2012, I was in middle school, and having a miserable time there. My academic record was less-then-perfect, I had no friends who weren't either uninterested people, dull people, or backstabbing hypocrites, I had accusations of me covertly raping a classmate circulating around the school (I was 13 at the time, by the way), and probably most damningly, my health was fast failing.

So my parents, being reasonable people, concerned with my health and well-being, took me out of that wretched hive so that I could recover from the scars it had laid upon me. Slowly at first, my health started recovering. I, prior to February, had developed a severe anorexia, in that even the mere sight of food would physically sicken me, because of the severe stomach pain that would come with the food.

Although I didn't know it at the time, my inability to burp and dysfunctional central nervous system allowed me no control over either my bowels or my bladder, in addition to making eating food a terrible ordeal, wrought in stinging, scratching, and groaning.

I started going back-to-back, to ambush doctor visits, attempting to figure out what's wrong with me. We went to MDs, they passed me off as irritable bowel syndrome and nothing else, prescribing me Miralax to help cope with my bowels. I went to a DC who did chiropractic work on me, alleviating much of my huge physical pain. He also took X-rays of me, and upon seeing my stomach, nearly fainted. He asked if a doctor had seen this, I truthfully replied no. He directed me to immediately visit the nearest doctor.

Doing this, they took a CT scan of me. They confirmed my bloated, gas-filled stomach and intestines were causing me great pain and stress, and immediately recommended medication to help with it. However, by that time (June), I had gotten a medical marijuana license which also greatly aided with my stomach pains.

The real turning point, however, was when I saw a certain Doctor Ronald Warner, who operated on me with great success. Now my central nervous system started functioning again, I could go to the bathroom without being immersed in water, I'd have advance warning when I urinate, I could actually start feeling and gaging my stomach, etc...

Now, you may ask. What does this whole medical history have to do with school? Simple. Without public schooling interfering with those formative years of my life, I would've lived a much happier and more cherished existence, rather than the hellish nightmare I lived up until a year or so ago.

But I know were supposed to be discussing the merits of school vs. not being in school.

So, I'd like to know your thoughts on this, Stephen. I'd like to know what you think of me being unschooled, or anything else you'd like to talk to me about. Please, let me know, because I am interested.

That's all for now, and I think I'll sleep, to prepare for the joyful and solemn Christmas ahead. See you later, Stephen. Biggrin

So because you had medical problems and didn't get it looked at sooner, that's the schools fault? You had bad classmates. And do you honestly think that people thought that rumor was true? C'mon now, no 13-14 year old kid is gonna think that someone raped someone.

I'll address each of your points individually.

Quote:So because you had medical problems and didn't get it looked at sooner, that's the schools fault?

Yes actually, in several critical ways. First, the food they served there was complete and utter crap, and much worsened my stomach condition. Second, stress and despair also played a large part in my stomach problems, and school was by and large the cause of that. And third, regarding the urination problem, the school didn't allow me to go to the bathroom when I needed, which caused huge damn problems regarding urine buildup, pain, pain, oh and did I mention pain? It got to the point that I put any hot object under my tongue I could so that I could actually stay home and go to the bathroom.

Quote:You had bad classmates.

Now that you're actually right about. But here's the thing. There were no good classmates, and if there were, the school intentionally isolated me from them, under the pre-supposed context of keeping the peace, despite the fact that I wasn't an imminent danger to anyone there.

Quote:And do you honestly think that people thought that rumor was true? C'mon now, no 13-14 year old kid is gonna think that someone raped someone.

Actually, my issue wasn't so much with the students believing that the rumor was true, but rather the staff believing that the rumor was true, and consequently isolating me from everybody else in the school.

Anyways, what I actually wanted you to reply to me was a misguided warning for my future, but that was good too.

Anyways, that's all for now Stephen. I thank you for reading everything that I post...

Although, perhaps I should spend less time replying to trolls, and instead, spend more time being a living counter-example to them. I would caution you to stop posting stuff like this though, lest the admins permaban you.

First off I am not a troll. Second, if the schools food hurt you, bring your own. Also, the school did not isolate you. That's ridiculous. Did you have your parents contact the school about these issues?

First off, you're not a troll by your standards, but you are by the admins standards.

Quote:Second, if the schools food hurt you, bring your own.
Look at it this way, we have no money, and there was no food I could bring to the school.

Quote:Did you have your parents contact the school about these issues?
We did, and got blown off about it repeatedly.

Now that you're going in circles, it isn't worth talking to you. I'll periodically check on this thread, but I'll cease replying to you unless you become friendly and intelligent.

I highly doubt that. If you have a doctors note and everything there's no way there not going to believe you
