RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

Fuck it, more video games.

Used to play this every day I got home from school. Good times actually. Also, I was usually eating these while playing:

I hated sports video games. My friends played that FIFA game non-stop. I would just get bored so shitless, it would appear to outside observers that I might be high(when I wasn't. I was just trying to keep myself from shoving my head through the nearest brick wall).

My mother used to put classic Doctor Who on, among other British shows that I used to hate but now like somewhat (Absolutely Fabulous, All Creatures Great & Small, those are the only two that actually come to mind right now).

Ah, crap. I remember that. Part of me liked it and part of me hated it.

And now the theme song is stuck in my head. Unfortunately it was one of the parts of the show I immensely hated, and still do. Aargh.

Oh man I used to LOVE that show. It was taken off the air for a year or so back when I watched it, and I was nearly convinced that meant the end of quality television. Not so hot on it now Razz

I kinda miss 12 Little Monsters. George Shrinks was great too. Caillou AFAIK is still on the air, even if it also still plays host to some truly abominable YouTube Poops.

Caillou always gave me the creeps. I remember back in the day there were rumors Caillou was supposed to die of cancer or something.

Also, did anyone here grow up watching classic Scooby-Doo?

LIE!

I watched so much TV, 70% of the radiation that laces my body is from it.

Though perhaps I was more the video game. Anyone ever try licking those video/audio cables you plug into the TV from the console? I did that with the ones of my N64. The electric tingling always felt so good(though you don't want to keep it on your tongue or it burns. Just tap it around for a short time. The metallic taste and electric shock was addicting).

Not a specific game or TV show, but rather a memory.

I remember back when I was 5-7 (basically, around 2001-03), I remember how night time peaked my curiosity. I remember always wanting to go out in the night time. I always thought that strange things like monsters and cartoon characters happened at night. Now being 16 though, the monsters are street criminals and the closest thing you get to a cartoon character is a guy that's insane who thinks that he is one.

I watched PBS till we got cable. Then I watched Discovery. Then I discovered Military channel.

If only cable price was based on how many channels you really wanted. I mean, I don't need the 100 other channels if all I watch is SyFy(their new name last I checked),Discovery,History,National Geographic, Science and Military channel. Maybe AMC and Fx(was that the channel that showed various movies?).

So basically local channels, and 8 cable channels, and I have to pay for all those channels I don't watch.

Plus, what the hell would I want Spanish shows? I don't even speak it. I'm not paying for channels in a language I don't know -_-

I remember that I would only be able to watch PBS Kids because we had no cable. It wasn't till 2005 when we got permanent cable. But even back then after 5:30PM when PBS Kids ended there wasn't much to watch if you were a kid. Yeah, a bunch of newscasts, paid programming, some Latin American TV soap operas and maybe a few prime time movies that you didn't recognize or care about, maybe a sports event. Oh, there were also repeats of Friends, Seinfeld, and those other shows as well.

I grew up haivng Direct TV. There were some channels that had some pretty strange shows.

And some of the things i put there are Probably more specific to me. A lot of what I watched was what my parents would put on TV.

So M.A.S.H Is another show that's really nostalgic since my parents would watch it all the time.

I didn't list it because I was thinking this was for stuff we were actually there for when it was out.

But, you did remind me (somehow) of:

I literally cried at the end of the series finale, no joke.

... Shut up, I was ten.

Also, Robot Wars.

RE: Nostalgia Thread Part 2

I cried at the ending of Battlestar Galactica(the remake or whatever). Well...teared up would be more accurate. Then again I did binge watch the entire series in about 2 weeks(including movies). Got pretty hooked to it. Even had mood swings deciding whether Gaius Baltar was a total idiot, pitiful fool, bastard who should die, crazy egotist or savior...

This has been a test of the emergency pointless argument system. Had this been a real pointless argument, someone would have been called a facist.
