RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

Company of Heroes

So I noticed a few of you guys bought it during the steam sale. Allow me to lay down a few guidelines and tips:

1. Realism isn't exactly this game's strong point, to say the least.
2. Brits are OP.
3. On the Sapphire-Roxxy masochism scale, this gets a solid 7.4.
4. If your units are taking casualties or if you simply bit off more than you could chew, there's no shame in retreating those units to headquarters.
5. Don't blob your shit.
6. Mortars are underrated.
7. Use cover, for the love of god.
8. Weapon Support Centers are almost useless unless you're a turtling turtle.
9. When you set up a MG for extended periods of time, either cover its flanks with wire/mines or have an infantry unit hang out in the area to support.
10. Wer Macht? Die Wehrmacht!
11. Set up medic stations/bunkers in areas you plan on occupying for some time - just close enough to the front lines that the medics can recover wounded, but far enough away so that it won't get blown to hell.
12. Pop cap, micro, macro, territory securing, low/med/high resources, cutoff, schreck, sturmies, volks, riflespam, roos, grens, pios, floating, T1-T4, the list goes on. Learn what these mean.
13. Flamethrowers ignore cover and are more dangerous to units inside structures.
14. MP40-equipped Volksgrenadiers are an effective poor man's Sturm squad.
15. Brits are OP.
16. Crocodiles are almost useless.
17. Schwimmwagen - a good decision.
18. Halftracks can transport troops, be upgraded to carry heavy weapons systems, and reinforce infantry in combat while being mostly immune to small arms. Use them.
19. Always have at least one quick, light vehicle to hunt for snipers.
20. Rangers and Airborne can become virtually immune to bullets and move twice as fast on demand at any time, but Panzer Grenadiers require approximately a thousand expensive upgrades for just the speed boost.
21. While you can lay a row of mines, this is a waste of munitions. Place individual mines on roads, at chokepoints, and around strategic points.
22. Kangaroos completely break the game.
23. Take a look at the Tactical Map once in awhile, it includes far more details than the mini-map.
24. Co-axial machine guns do comparable damage to harsh language.
25. If you're playing alongside a human as Panzer Elite, Bergetiger is practically a requirement.
25. Infantry in slit trenches are basically completely invulnerable to everything except large amounts of explosives and fire.
26. Support infantry with vehicles and vice versa.
27. The Hetzer, Jagdpanther, Marder, StuG, and Geschutzwagen aren't tanks, they're self-propelled guns. Tossers.
28. Place machine gun nests behind barbed wire behind tank traps for a virtually impassable barrier.
28. Anti-tank weaponry that infantry can carry usually does meager damage against actual tanks by itself, but makes for nice support for your armor in tank-vs-tank battles.
29. If you see red smoke around your troops, you have two seconds to move them before they become chunky salsa.
30. Go Germans or go home.
