RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017
The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.
If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.
To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.
I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.
I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.
I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.
I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.
Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.
Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

You shouldn't have said that! Now your going to jynx it!

For anyone who remembers me going on an archive binge: Thank you all. I know I ended it being a drama queen, I don't really agree with the ideology anymore, and I'm really not the same person I was (I went through a neopagan phase!) but still this site was the first online community I was in. The food at my school isn't poison or cardboard, but most of it doesn't taste good. The pizza is okay, the cheesesteak, the tacos, and nearly anything at the snack bar is good even though it's overpriced for small portions.

The food at my current school is actually quite good... They make burgers, hotdogs, burritos and stuff like that... too bad they don't have pizza o_o
In middle school they didn't have any normal food... just some shitty chips (no, I'm not talking about french fries... I'm talking about Lays and shit like that), Doritos, Snickers, shitty cookies, etc... They didn't even have soda! They also had something called "pizza"... it was, uhm, some crappy not baked enough dough with a bit of ham and tomato sauce on it. And everything was overpriced as fuck.
But it was wayyy worse in 2,3 and 4th grade. We either had fruits (just one apple/orange per person, and they didn't even taste good) or some shitty "sandwiches"...actually, it was a tiny little slice of bread with just a little bit of butter and some disgusting stuff on it...usually it was sour jelly or rotten ham (it often had some white or green stuff on it... ughh), or cottage cheese, which tasted like cardboard... at least we didn't have to pay for it. I would have never wasted my money on this shit anyways.
My schools food is terrible. And I'll be honest, I skip lunch a lot just to avoid eating it. I usually only eat the pizza, but my old 6th grade teacher told us the cheese on it was fake. e.e
Healty food ...sometimes bad and sometimes good. They don't do junk food like pizza or fries. The hamburgers are just awful... I wonder which meat it is. Had cases that in some places like schools made horse meat :s and in the news I heard about markets where were sold horse meat instead of meat from cows or pork.

Elementary school--I never bought food. And thank goodness. Kids were always finding hairs and things. One person found a silvery-looking thing which resembled a fingernail. A vegetarian friend was terrified to try a "veggie burger" that appeared to be anything but.
Middle school--Even worse. The food always looked waxy, fake, and smelled terrible. Everything appeared to come out of a can. The one good snack item--the others were "healthy" junk, like tiny "pretzel hearts" and Sunchips--was Sour Cream and Onion Baked Lays. These were later taken away and replaced with Snapz Apple Crisps, described by one boy as "edible rocks that are inedible".
High school--Finally, actual food that tastes good. I'm a sucker for the french fries, which are some of the best I've ever had, and fresh soft pretzels. There's also pizza that ISN'T square (??), ice cream, actual chips, cookies, FRESH fruit, various snack items...There's also a fresh cookie stand nearby, and we live near a couple of fast food/restaurant hotspots. The only good thing about our high school, I think, is the food

Pretty disgusting. I make a point to bring my own food whenever I can, and when I can't, I usually just skip lunch.
Since I never have it, the quality doesn't bother me, but here's what DOES piss me off: You know how schools and government officials and everyone complain about their food not being healthy enough? And then they immediately after say why it's too hard to make healthy food.
As someone who's cooked since they were little, it upsets me to hear them say this. Healthy meals aren't that hard to make, and even if they were, you could easily make the food healthier (AND cheaper, so don't even bring it up). For starters they could wipe off the inch of grease sitting on-top of pizzas. And the breaded chicken? Remove the greasy breading. It's NOT THAT HARD.
The reals reason they don't change the food isn't because it's hard to make good (or healthy) food, it's because they're the corporation's bitch, and they'll never admit it.

Actually I recently found out it's incredibly easy to eat healthy and cheap. All it requires is a bit of creativity and determination.

You are aware that corporations bribe US government officials with around 60% of their decisions, right?

Pink slime burgers, dry, rubbery carrots, greasy ass macaroni, mushy corn, cold pancakes, waffles hard as cardboard, crumbly, tasteless chicken nuggets, hotdogs floating in disgusting yellow water, with burnt flakes drifting about... ewww. The portions were tiny and left me starving.
A few times kids found metal flakes and hair in their pasta. I found mold on a tortilla! Once I ate a taco- a pretty disgusting one at that, and at recess it made me nauseous to the point where I almost threw up. Mind you, my district is not a poor one. The lunch used to be more bearable when there was a slushy machine around. The only edible thing in the whole cafeteria.
I found a dead trail of ants in the rice upon closer inspection at the lunch cart. Ants. No one believed me. So, next to that health inspection certificate proudly taped to the lunch cart was a trail of dead insects in the food. Nasty!
Now I'm in middle school, and the food here is a million times better than that stinky crap disguised as food. We have real pizza, not cold cardboard covered in sauce! No more sun chips at the snack line- cookies, pudding, funnel cake, and even ice cream during the summer. They serve mozzarella sticks and real chicken fingers. Occasionally they serve calzone. It's a lot of junk food, really. But it's quality. There's a mini fridge full of snapples, chocolate milks and water bottles. One of the lunch ladies is really nice, she treats the kids like human beings!
So, how are your lunches?
My school lunches? Lol, I packed for every single day of the year except for one, where I waited 10 minutes to get a small amount of tasteless dry chips served with plastic melted cheese they called nachos. That put me off of school lunch the entire year.
Sorry aliens. No intelligent life here.
Ugh. School wrecked me. At least I still have my sanit- nope, never mind... um... I still have a relationship with my frien- nope, lost that too. Wait... Something is coming... YES! I STILL HAVE MY IMAGINATION!
