RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

My One Biggest Problem with Schools.

Is that they force you to go there, force you to follow the rules, and then claim it is like a job.
In a job, or in anything you go to for that matter, you either follow the rules or you leave. It's not that hard. School is like slavery. You have to go there, you have to follow there rules, and you can't leave. Even if the rules are only partly stupid in most cases, it's still the principle of the matter.

The purpose of life is a life with a purpose
So I’d rather die for a cause than live a life that is worthless
I don’t need the circus or the day of national observance
I need you to think for you and stop being a servant

and it's also like slavery because you do your job and you don't get paid very much, they pay you in good grades i suppose.

My One Biggest Problem with Schools.

It is a job. A job no one wants.

It's a job because you do work for wages, except this work is pointless in accomplishment and only serves to test you, and your wages are consistent of knowledge - and, more often than not, they dock your pay anyway.

P.S. Illegal aliens do the jobs in America that most people won't do, and the Chinese used to be brought over to work on railroads and shit like that in the old west.

RE: My One Biggest Problem with Schools.

It's not really a job, I can get knowledge for free on the Internet, and maybe more depending on what I do. Schools need to realise they are becoming obsolete rapidly, and that they don't provide enough fun to compensate for this fact. If every class was taught by a naked women, who was smokin hot, that could solve it...

Wouldn't solve it - I'd find it distasteful for being in a day-to-day setting, and it would take all the fun out of porn.

So, basically, some scientists held a fake execution. Sounds like my kind of thing, assuming no harm is done to anyone

RE: My One Biggest Problem with Schools.

wasn't even a fake execution, the only "lesson" i learned from it when we were talking about it in psychology was that if you have a lab coat and a clipboard you can rule the world bc ppl will think you have power...although, in the Doctor Who universe, psychic paper works so much better because people won't detain you since you have "I.D"

You are referring to the Milgram experiment.

Why did they do it? To test obedience of authority figures. The results: if a guy has a badge, uniform, title or whatever that somehow puts him up higher, most people will become his bitch in no time.

I haven't seen the first few seasons, I just got into it with #9 through netflix so my knowledge doesn't go very far back in the Whoverse...but I did try to watch some of the older movies once...found out that i really hate the quality of the graphics back then and couldn't watch them

My One Biggest Problem with Schools.

I'm pretty sure it was more than 10% of people who went all the way to the highest voltage. I think it was a majority if I remember right...
