RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017
The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.
If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.
To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.
I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.
I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.
I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.
I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.
Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.
Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

My guess, its the feeling of being a soldier in the class war. War has always made great musicians, that is also why labor unions are always the most musical part of the left, these organizations are literally armies of the workers, strikes, especially when the great Little Red Songbook was being formulated were usually violent, pinkertons called in and beating you. Then the next great leftist music surge was the Spanish Civil War, a literal war
Because noone wants to hear songs about abolishing gay marriage or state executions for flag burning.

Because I'm sick of hearing christian "rock". I used to like Ted Nugent till I realized he was a batshit crazy gun-toting, Glenn Beck supporting, redneck rousing, braindead idiot.

All the really good music IMO is against both sides. Every genre has it's different ideals, not necessarily political, but about society in general.
The left typically has its old hippie music, alternative music and all the sold out modern punk (green day for example). There is the occasional decent lefty music such as rise against and the rare leftist metal band (SOAD). And I guess rap would count as lefty music too since it's against rich white people (whitey), but meh, kinda debatable.
The right has shitty country and christian music, no surprise there. It also has "Oi" music, if you know what that is.
Metal in general seems to be against left/right and I like it that way.

Punk/Oi music is almost always anarchistic, at least all the stuff my punk friend keeps linking me to lol.

Old school punk is anarchistic. All the Oi I have heard is a bunch of white trash skinheads playing 3 different power chords shouting about white rights and shit. Basically it's white people version of rap. Correct me if I'm wrong, but that's what Ive seen of Oi.

Maybe cause the left is about change and people like new things. The right is all about same old-same old.

Ehh I hate this whole left-right spectrum. And the meaning of left vs right is different to everyone.
Right can mean economic freedom or conservative politics.
Left can mean politics orientated towards the community rather than the individual, yet also be about change or Communism.

I prefer the terms libertarian and authoritarian. Libertarian meaning maximum freedom (anarchy) and authoritarian meaning minimum freedom (Brainwashed cult). I haven't found better terms yet, but I'm looking since Libertarian can also mean minimal government instead of anarchy making the terms imperfect.

Then you must be checking out neo-nazi bands lol. When I get back on my main computer I'll ask my friend for some links and shit.

Jesus fucking Christ, for anti-schoolers you people have some serious lacking of musical education.
What the fuck is "devil music" then? Most people would consider metal to be "devil music". The fact that the "devil" doesn't even exist implies that in a boring technical way devil music doesn't exist.
When I think about metal, I think more about death and black metal which is what I mostly listen to and has a lot of anti-religious and sometimes "satanic" content.
I wouldn't say this can't be called devil music
